The Void or 3D-Blackness (as Out-of-body-pioneer Robert Monroe called it) is a place or state of being where Astral Projectors (APers) / Out-Of-Body Experiencers (OBErs), Near-Death-Experiencers (NDErs) and in rare cases even Regression Hypnosis Clients and Meditators can go.

To Astral Projectors it is often a 'stopover' or a gateway leading to many other realms and it is also often the transition phase between the physical and non-physical (astral) planes. It's a kind of buffer zone. It is also described and conceived as the primordial consciousness. It is probably even a part or expression of our 'Source' / 'God' / 'All That Is'. To Near Death Experiencers it can be more frightening and 'new' if they have had no prior experience with it.

In the Void you are normally 'body-less' with no or a 'kind of' blackened visual sense and usually your thinking capacity turned on fully lucid. However, despite the usual state of 'sense deprivation' different senses can be turned on or off, sometimes even at will. There are many variations possible. Actually all of them can be 'added'. You can hear sounds (talk and even music never heard before!), smell, communicate and even touch and feel things when floating in the Void.

This article will deal with both viewpoints (hub / bufferzone and 'Source' / primordial mind) which are not mutually exclusive, of course. However, there is even more to say about it and the following quotes from many different experiencers will make that very clear. Usually I will not make a distinction between the reports of NDErs and APers but the links will show where it comes from.

In Parts I,II and III I will not write too much myself but mostly just stick to a collection of quotes that often speak for themselves. With Part I here being the introduction, Part II is about what famous authors and experts have to say. I spoke to some of them myself via the internet (e-mail, pm, message board) and asked them for statements. Part III will be drawn from internet articles and mostly forums all around the world wide web and focus even more on astral projection. Part IV will describe my own experience and experiments with the Void. I will draw my conclusions in Part V.

A necessary note ahead on the fragility of internet links: The internet changes daily and we all know that links come and go and thus get 'broken'. This especially happened to all of my links I had gathered in 2017 from the 'Explorations In Consciousness'-forum founded by author Frank Aardema. Therefore you will not be able to get back to the original source although I still provide the links in the text. At this time only the start page would then appear with the message that the forum has been terminated. Maybe it will also vanish completely soon. However, I can vouch for the quotes' authenticity. Take my word for it that they are - except for occasional slight edits (e.g. omissions, shortening, paragraphs) - unchanged in their meaning from how I had copied them from the browser into a word processing document.

To begin with, I take this quote from the article "The Void and the Near-Death Experience'. It is very good although it lacks the perspective of Astral Projection entirely. Yet, for a start I can restrict myself to this description:

The general consensus among near-death testimonies is that the Void is a realm of complete and profound darkness - empty of everything except for the thought and emotional patterns of those who enter it. The Void is a perfect place for experiencers to examine themselves, contemplate their recent earth experience, and decide where they want to go next. For some experiencers, the Void is a beautiful and heavenly realm because, in the absence of all else, they are able to perfectly see the love and light within themselves. For other experiencers, the Void is a terrifying, confusing, horrible hell because, in the absence of everything, they are temporarily unable to see the love and light within themselves. For this reason, the Void also acts as a heavenly "Time Out" where the experiencer is forced to look within themselves. There is no judgment in the Void except the possibility of self-judgment - a harsher form of self-understanding. The Void has also been understood as a process of "ego death" where the "mask" of the personality is dissolved to allow the individuality of the soul to be experienced in relation to the Whole that is God. (...) For some souls, the time spent in the Void may feel like only a moment. For others, it may seem like eternity. This is because the nature of the Void is for contemplation. Once the soul is ready, the light appears and the tunnel takes them into higher realms. For souls who either refuse the light or have spent a lifetime ignoring the light within themselves, it may take what seems like an "eternity" before they are ready to move on.

The Void is known by many religious traditions by many different names. Some of them are: purgatory, hell, outer darkness, prison, Gehennom, She'ol, pit, abyss, an-nar, and Preta-Loka.

I am not a Scandinavian but I like listening to Nordic (Viking / Pagan) Folk music. So from there I know another name for the Void coming from Norse creation mythology. It is called 'Ginnungagap'. Since many lyrics are of a spiritual nature this term appears quite often in different songs and by different performers.

In Norse mythology, Ginnungagap ("gaping abyss", "yawning void") is the primordial void, mentioned in the Gylfaginning, the Eddaic text recording Norse cosmogony.

However, this NDE and religious or mythological focus is not enough. This article is intended to also show it from another angle: The one that astral projectors have. Due to the 'voluntary' nature of AP and projecting to and then experiencing the Void you will notice a higher playfulness and with it - even more strikingly - almost always the complete absence of fear.

Some projectors even go there voluntarily because they seek the Void for pleasure, self-reflection and -experience as 'mind' or pure consciousness, relaxation or to be playing with it. Some seek information, even future information is possible. I also gather (so far preferably past) information (see Part IV) and use it as a hub for travel, but many other experiencers just seek to play with senses next to, before or even instead of using it as a springboard to 'teleport' to other planes and adventures.

Last not least, next to the AP viewpoint, another very important aspect and even main purpose of this article is the following:

Corroboration!

There is hardly any astral projector who has not come across The Void before, even most beginners know it. If many people from all over the world independently write about something you can be certain there is some truth in it, or even a lot! This is the very reason I gathered all the quotes and links about this topic. You will notice the commonalities and similarities among their accounts. I cannot even post all of the material and links I have found, so I am already restricting myself here. I could fill an entire book about what I found. A long book could, however, be a bit boring due to the repetitiveness of the experience descriptions by different people. Since I already left out material for this article even this long essay is still just an extract!

We all love lists. Therefore let me sum up in this introduction what we can already say about Void experiences. Many of these hypotheses will be touched upon in the following parts again.

Access/Experience Types:

Astral Projection / Out-Of-Body Experience / Phasing
Near Death Experience
Regression Hypnosis (In-Between-Lives, Higher Self Channelling)
Deep Meditation (Limited*)

* In my view, however, Meditation is in this case perhaps just another 'direct' induction method for an Astral Projection (especially of the so-called 'Phasing'-type which is a mainly visualisation- and meditation-based projection method), but this can be debated.

Void Types:

Three main types of the Void can be identified. Note that this can be a spectrum and that there are 'in-betweens'. Examples for all of these will be shown very clearly also in Part II and III with the expert statements and the many forum entries. So I am anticipating this a little, but I add it all to my introduction in order to show all the people without any Void experience how it 'looks' and 'feels' like or what I am talking about in general.

Here are in shorthand form the main categories of Void experience / perception. They are ordered according to their 'visibility' and dubbed in short as 'BLIND', 'SWIRLS' and 'WHITE':

(A) BLIND = "TOTAL (EXIT) BLINDNESS" - Sometimes also described as 'exit blindness' from the physical to astral, a usual problem for projectors who want to go 'somewhere', it's a completely dark Void but still with a 3D and a 'moving' weightless quality.

(B) SWIRLS = "DARK-GREY SWIRLS / TV-STATIC" - Darkness, floating, but often with stars or moving swirls or veils, or (grey-ish) smoke, the starfield is often described as 'pinpricks' or 'pinpoints of light' that are 'like space', background or general colour most often dark-greyish (in my case), sometimes entire galaxies of light spinning (side note: it is NOT outer space where APers of course also can go and quite often do!). Like Type A, there is 'deepness' to it (hence the '3D'tag added).

(C) WHITE = "WHITE VOID" - This is a rare case but it happens.

Below you will find two very rough visualisations of type (B), in my experience Type B is the most common type. Note this is just an approximation by example, it can still be very different from that. The link below the image contains a video / image from a commercial stock foto site that gives you an even better (and darker) impression of what it can be like if it is more of the star field type (B). Note again that the experience also ranges from individual to individual and can change from one moment to the other or from projection to projection, too. Yes, it can at times indeed be a bit similar to that kind of 'dark tv static' we know of. However, in my case, I also often see greyish-black-white swirls or smoke screens waving or sometimes turning galaxies of greyish light points on the black background. And there is also (wilful) colouring possible, but I will only get to this in Part IV, which is about my own experiments.

Part II - Authors, Experts, Researchers & Teachers

I do not introduce these well-known experts in this article. Many can be found with their books on Amazon or on their own websites. The exceptions are Frank Kepple and Nick Newport who were solely 'internet based' teachers although they are not active anymore today. Dolores Cannon is also an exception of another kind since she is not an astral projector or author on OBEs at all but a past life regression therapist. However, she has a whole chapter on The Void in one of her books. This in turn is a highly valuable source which gives us more corroborating information gained via regression hypnosis from her clients. It is so very interesting because it is coming from a completely different methodical source.

Tom Campbell

I asked Tom Campbell via PM on his MBT forum (https://www.my-big-toe.com/forums/) to make a short statement for my article and he kindly answered.

Sinera, The void is what is left after all your sense data disappears (you let go of the data-stream defining your so-called "physical" reality) and your mind is still (without thoughts of any sort). What you are left with is an awareness that you exist and nothing else. I call that state "point consciousness" because it appears as if you are a point of consciousness (awareness) floating in an infinite black void. Being able to attain point consciousness and remain undisturbed in that state as long as you wish is an excellent doorway (altered state) from which to effectively project your intent toward some end. Let's start with the most difficult concept first, the one that appears mystical from the PMR point of view. This concept assumes the existence of an apparently (not necessarily actual) infinite absolute something: A Oneness that is uniform, plain, and without differentiation. This apparently infinite source of our larger reality has no discernible boundaries, edges, or limits (as a perfectly calm ocean would appear to you if you were floating in the middle of it). This undifferentiated something would seem to be, and has often been called "All That Is," "The One," "The Void," "The Primordial Big Dude," {i. e., God, inserted for clarity in the present context.} and other similar philosophical descriptions. It represents the fundamental core of existence. It is a familiar concept to various religious and spiritual conceptualizations. An absolute no-thing, pervasive, yet exists beyond our space and time. Tom points out the difference of an 'astral' or mystical Void experience to a 'Void'(-like)-experience during meditation, which is not necessarily the same thing. Normally that kind of void is just the expression for being completely 'void of thoughs' by the art of stilling the mind via mediation. Yet, for very skilled practitioners of deep meditation it can happen that you access the 'real thing', probably also (or only?) by using meditation as a launchpad for astral projection (note: LCS = Larger Consciousness System / NPMR = Non-physical Matter Reality / VR = Virtual Reality):

In meditation, we seek to gradually turn off the chatter of our Internal Dialog, leaving us with only transient passing thoughts which we do not allow to engage our attention or perhaps to even totally remove this dialog for increasing lengths of time or to even have it cease for longer periods of hours. The purpose is the removal of 'noise' in order to let the 'signal' from the LCS reach our attention. That is in technical terms, to improve the signal to noise ration and thus allow the signal of LCS or NPMR contact to be more readily perceived. While this is sometimes referred to as accessing the Void state, it probably is not the actual Void unless one reaches the point of being able to maintain very deep states of meditation with internal silence for extended periods and specifically seeks to experience the Void. Then we apply our Intent to perhaps establish communication clearly with guidance or perhaps to request access to or contact with the Void. If one chooses the latter of these two options, the Void may be presented to us as described above by the LCS. The Void is something which we cannot 'see' or otherwise experience on our own. It is an experience which must be supplied to us by the LCS as it is not a VR experience but rather a special experience of direct apprehension and where we have no senses as no sense organs. So while we can access the Void during meditation, doing so is not the normal result and purpose of meditation.

In a forum post Tom also aligns the Void with his understanding of the term 'point consciousness' which is when you are just awareness and do not exist or move in a form or a 'body' (physical, astral, etc.). Although we will see in other examples below that point consciousness is not necessarily always used to describe The Void and The Void is not necessarily always point consciousness, this is certainly spot-on regarding the 'perfect' Void state where you are 'only awareness' and in meditation, self-reflection, contemplation or observer mode.

I am not familiar with what Bruce Moen calls the 3D Blackness but the name sort of fits -- I would like "dimensionless blackness" better but this experience is not about space or visual color. It is not so much that one experiences blackness as it is that one experiences nothing (the void) except their own existence. With no awareness of ANY input to or from any of your senses, it is like the ultimate sensory deprivation chamber. Nothing but an awareness of existing and being aware -- i.e., the pure experience of being conscious with absolutely nothing else going on. A point (no sense of dimension) of consciousness existing within the void.

Robert Monroe

Robert Monroe coined many terms used by today's OBErs. Among them also was the expression '3D blackness' or 'velvety blackness'. On googlebooks I could not find a direct quote for this term but I remember it from reading the books myself.

It was not the blackness of a dark room, but a feeling of infinite distance and space, as if I were looking through a window into distant space.

Frank Kepple

Frank Kepple was member and moderator of the Astral Pulse forums years ago. We need to make a little excursion to the Monroe Institute before we get to his vast research and his writings on The Void.

Kepple wrote a lot of influential posts on that forum since he was a skilled explorer himself. His initial approach was based on the Robert Monroe Focus Level model (see TMI) but then he developed his own simplified model out of it. The following given links and quotes in their order will be self-explanatory. Let's first examine the Monroe Focus Levels and then Kepple's system.

The Monroe Institute (here: TMI UK) on Monroe's levels:

The Focus levels are the awareness points that our consciousness can occuppy. The Void is not mentioned directly but it might be represented by or somewhere between Focus 15 and 21:

States of Consciousness and Focus™ Levels:
As a result of extensive experiential and brainwave research at The MonroeInstitute, a simple system of labels (called Focus Levels) was devised to indicate various states or phases of consciousness. These labels are a means of neutral identification, and are used extensively as part of the training process throughout our weekend and week-long experiential programs.
Focus 1 – Normal, everyday waking consciousness. Completely in phase with physical matter reality. Also referred to as “C1 Consciousness”.
Focus 10 – The physical body is deeply relaxed while the mind remains conscious, awake and alert. “Mind awake, body asleep.”
Focus 11 – The Access Channel – the ultimate communication channel to all levels of awareness -mental, physical, and emotional. Opened during each Human Plus® exercise.
Focus 12 – A state of expanded awareness while the body remains deeply relaxed and asleep.
Focus 15 – A state of No-Time. Consciousness is now far removed from physical body signals. Linear time is no longer relevant to experience.
Focus 21 – On the very edge of perception of the time/space continuum. Mind remains fully conscious and active.
Focus 22 – On the border between time/space and non-physical states of being. Comatose.
Focus 23 – The condition in which an individual may find him or herself immediately following physical death.
Focus 24 – The site of non-physical activity generated by simple or primitive religious or cultural beliefs.
Focus 25 – The expression of the major organized religious beliefs in recent human history.
Focus 26 – Here are identified certain areas, few in number, containing the structures and knowledge of various highly individual religious and other beliefs based on direct experience of self.
(Focus Levels 24 to 26 are referred to as the Belief System Territories, and are explored extensively during the Lifeline program)
Focus 27 – The edge of human thought capacity. The site of a way-station (not a terminus) for rest and recovery from the trauma of physical death.
Focus 34/35 – The area of the Gathering. Beings from many other locations within the physical universe are gathered here to witness the upcoming Earth Changes. First mentioned in Bob Monroe’s second book, Far Journeys.
Focus 42 – I-There cluster consciousness.
Focus 49 – Sea of I-There clusters.

Now let's have a look at Frank Kepple and his own comparison of his F1-F4 system to the Monroe model of reality:

So how does my model equate with Monroe's? Well, in most ways they sit very well together. My model can best be viewed as a simplified version of Monroe's, but with additional features which are due to discoveries made by me during the course of my explorations. For those familiar with Monroe's system of labels, here is a basic comparison as far as possible:

Monroe Focus 3, 10, 12, 15 & 21 = my Focus 2
Monroe Focus 23, 24, 25, 26 & 27 = my Focus 3

Frank was a skilled explorer of the non-physical planes or dimensions (4D/5D) and is held in high regard among the projector community. This collection (Frank Kepple Resource) as a merging of his posts from the Astral Pulse forums is excellent and an interesting read. It is a summary done by someone else compiling the forum posts. Frank Kepple vanished years ago (last post in 2005) and some speculate due to his then already known health problems that he might not be on this physical plane anymore.

So taken into account that this is a spectrum with lots of gradients this would be my own (rough) comparison with the often used 3/4/5-D model and also with the 'historical' (Eastern, Theosophical) 'planes/bodies' model:

F1 - physical plane - 3D
F2 - astral private / (lucid or unlucid) dream planes - 4 D(Between F2+F3 (Focus Z) - The Void)
F3 - astral lower and higher / public planes - 4 or in part already 5 D ? (this is rather muddy)
F4 - mental (and higher, e.g. buddhic) planes / 'spiritual essence' (quote Kepple) / Higher Selves / or even 'Source'? - 5 D

Frank's posts on the Void regarding its 'place' in the system as well as using it as a transition / buffer zone between the Focus levels F2 and F3, he also called it 'Focus Z':
More on Monroe's FOCUS 21 state:

Those familiar with Monroe's model will be aware of the Focus 21 state. This state is also known by many astral explorers as the '3D Blackness' state. You know when you arrive at this state as the black field of vision in front of you becomes completely 3D and you find yourself floating freely within it, rather than just observing it in a 2D fashion. As you can see, it lies right at the top end of my Focus 2 and it borders on Focus 3. The 3D Blackness state, or Monroe's F21 is what can best be described as a bridge state. This state can be viewed as the point at which your individual mind meets the wider astral, i.e. the state where your individual Consciousness Continuum (FOCUS 2) meets the 'common area' of your Consciousness Continuum (FOCUS 3). It is the jumping off point for all adventures in Focus 3, or the Astral Proper as some people call it. I decided to use the label 'Focus Z' (as in Zero) to describe this state as it is unique in the Wider Reality and seems to deserve a label of its very own.
During the phasing process, people will pass through this state on their way to F3, but many people are unaware of it as they tend to flash through it so quickly. This is a shame since the FZ state is quite awesome in its own right. You can simply relax and float peacefully through the black void, just chilling out. Another thing you can do is to call forth any piece of music you care to think of and you will hear it all around you in glorious surround sound! You can also form 'astral windows' in this state, which will display any particular scene you care to think of in glorious high definition! You can use this as a jumping off point into F3 if you like: all you need to do is will yourself to step into the scene and there you go. There is likely to be plenty more to discover about the FZ state and further exploration is warranted.

Further down he goes on to describe historic explorers who got stuck in the Void entering it from their 'private astral' area (F2):

This is about as far as those olden-day inner explorers went. Some of them tried to venture “beyond” F2 but by and large they were captured by their superstitions when they came across the 3D Blackness or FZ area.
Getting lost or getting mutilated by some monster hidden in the dark recesses of 'The Void' was a big thing in those days. The tales of which would be filed alongside all manner of other scary “facts”, such as, if a person travelled at more than 15mph their physical body would fall apart. But these days the more forward-thinking practitioners realise this infamous Void of old is just an area of 3D Blackness situated between Focus 2 and Focus 3 of consciousness. To followers of the Monroe School,The Void is simply the 3D-Blackness at Focus 21. Simple as that. No superstitious nonsense getting in the way. Just place your Intent and away you go.
So when you “take off” into the 3D Blackness, you generally emerge within Focus 3 of consciousness, or what is becoming commonly known as the Transition Area, where you will come into contact with other people who are very real indeed, not just F2 'dream characters'.

Using a 'Venetian Blinds' metaphor, in this post Frank describes even in more detail how to navigate betwen F2 (dream area) and F3 (public astral planes) using the Void as the transit area. (This is not on the Resource page but another thread:)

[K]nowing where you are at in the general scheme of things you want to then make another transition. What you need to find, if you can, is the 3D blackness, or the Void as mystics tend to call it. This is the “border” between Focus 2 and Focus 3 of consciousness. You should be able to “see through” your dreamscape and intertwined with it will be a kind of aperture. Remember, the Focus areas are not places. When you mentioned this word, you put it in double quotes so it looks like you realise this already. But I’m stressing it again here for the benefit of anyone who hasn’t yet picked this up.

[Y]ou need to “detune” your focus of attention from Focus 2. In a way, it’s like looking at one of those subliminal pictures that were all the rage a number of years ago. The ones where you apply a soft focus and the picture comes into view. Take the same idea and do this within Focus 2. What we are creating, in effect, is a highly controlled overlay experience. As you do this, you should start to see, like, slats with a blackness inbetween them. Imagine a large vertical Venetian blind that was in front of an identical Venetian blind. Each blind had a large picture painted over the slats. Imagine this picture being representative of you objectively viewing a focus area or focus of attention. Now fully close both blinds.
So now, you can see the whole picture of blind one and nothing of the picture painted on blind two behind it. Imagine the picture you can see now as your current dreamscape, i.e. Focus 2. Imagine the picture painted over the slats of the blind behind as Focus 3. Now slowly open the first blind and turn the slats through 45 degrees. At which point you can still see the picture but it’s broken up. Now the picture is interspersed with the picture on the slats of the blind behind it. The act of opening the blind is like “detuning” your focus of attention. This is what I mean when I say you should start to see “slats” with a blackness between them. You can still see your dreamscape but it is interspersed with the 3D-Blackness, which is the “border” between Focus 2 and Focus 3 of consciousness.
If you were to open the imaginary blind so the thin edge of each slat is now directly facing you, you would not be able to see the initial picture at all now. All you would see is the picture painted on the second blind, which takes up your full focus of attention.
Note: when this happens you don’t actually “travel” anywhere. You can if you want to. You can start “flying” around all over the place if you want to. But doing that just gets in the way of any kind of serious work. Now and again, it’s good to have a fly around. However, if you want to start making good inroads you must resist the urge to play around within Focus 2.
So “detune” your focus and when you see the slat-effect appear, keep your attention focused on the blackness between the slats. The slats should seem to turn wider open to the point where your previous dreamscape will fall away entirely. Now you will be standing on what feels like a precipice. It will feel like that “behind you” is where you have just “come from” and before you is the infamous Void, the bane of many a mystic, lol. But this is just the 3D-Blackness at Focus 21 of the Monroe model.

Dolores Cannon

This is the third experience type through which we can experience the Void besides Near Death Experience and Astral Projection (with Meditation being the 4th). The late Dolores Cannon was a famous regression hypnotherapist. She used it also for life-between-lives reports and 'channellings' of beings or the client's Higher Self. This example below seems to be of the latter kind.

Here we get an unmistakably clear description of The Void. It seems to be emanating from either Source or the Higher Self, or even be a representation of itself. Parts are sent out and come back 'home' to bring back life experience and enrich 'the whole', either as sparks from Source or as avatars of the Higher Self. This 'home' is at least visualised as The Void here very clearly.

It is an entire chapter that can be seen on Googlebooks. I will cite only a few parts of it but recommend to read it in full there or buy the book anyway. (Note: The mentioned 'cloud' is part of the hypnosis technique using it as a starting point for the regressed person to go to the place and time chosen by their Higher Self or as asked by the regressionist.)

Jenny came from Canada to have this session while I was in Ashtabula, Ohio in 2005, giving lectures and workshops. She thought this would be closer than coming to my office in Arkansas, and she was able to attend the lectures, also.
When Jenny came off the cloud, she was confused because there was a sense of nothingness. “There’s nothing. There’s black, and I don’t see any land. I feel that I’m in space. I’m not on any surface. I’m in, I guess, the void. I don’t even see stars of any kind. I guess I better mention what’s important: when I was on the cloud, I felt I was being accompanied by spacecraft, sort of like an honor guard of some sort. But now I’m in space, and I can’t see anything.”

She was meditating when she suddenly found herself in a dark, formless place of nothingness, which she could only explain as the “void”. The subconscious was explaining:
T: That was just an experience of being more in touch with some of these more refined levels, or other levels of consciousness. Dropping away the pictures without dropping away this particular body. I allowed her to have that experience. So it’s nothing else but to show her that it really is all one consciousness. And that experience of the void that she had is even going to a more elementary level of that consciousness. It is the nothingness out of which everything comes. Everything comes from that. That is infinite, and that is everything, at its most unrefined level. And as she had that experience, it would be natural for her to recognize that none of this is real. Kurt Leland

I asked Kurt Leland via E-mail to make a short statement for my article and he kindly answered. His answer highlights the Void's buffer zone aspect with regard to a more traditional angle. For Kurt the Void experience or state occurs by the shifting of one body to another and therefore with it from one plane to another since bodies correspond to their planes (e.g. physical body - physical plane / astral body - astral plane / mental body - mental plane). This makes sense to me, especially when we are including the 'disabled' chakras because according to Kurt it is the first chakra that roots you in a body / plane / reality while the 2nd in a 'space' / area. His answer is thus very interesting and really gives a different and unique but also highly valuable perspective.

I haven't used this word void because it is essentially meaningless. It's not the name of a distinct place or state of consciousness, though there are places and states of consciousness that can be experienced as void of content. In my opinion, an experience of voidness means only that the required inner senses aren't available to perceive the environment or state one is in. Often this is a result of shifting from one body to another in the aura (which is probably what you mean by phasing, another fancy but probably meaningless word). It's easy to move one's awareness between the bodies and then the question arises as to whether that body's senses are capable of perceiving the plane that body operates on. Sometimes the body is turned away from the plane and an experience of voidness occurs. Sometimes, as mentioned, the inner senses aren't sufficiently developed to perceive the plane, or even presence in a different body.
In theosophical literature there is a novel explanation of four states of consciousness described in ancient Sanskrit texts: waking, dreaming, deep and dreamless sleep, and samadhi or ecstasy. For most people, waking correlates to the physical body, dreaming to the astral body, dreamless sleep to the mental body, and samadhi to the causal body. The notion of samadhi is said to correspond to the highest body you have access to, but from which you can bring back no memory of experience, except the feeling of ecstasy. That would be what is called the void in the OBE literature you asked me about.
More advanced souls bump everything up a level: They're constantly awake in both the physical and astral realms, they dream in the mental body, experience dreamless sleep in the causal body, and samadhi in the buddhic body. Really advanced souls would experience waking consciousness in the physical, astral, and mental bodies, dreaming in the causal body, dreamless sleep in the buddhic body, and samadhi in the nirvanic body.
What creates the feeling of voidness is that only one or two chakras of the body in question are active:First chakra gives the sense of being in a different body, but no sense of being in a space. The body may itself be perceived as a self-contained space; no beings, no possibility of movement. This would be one example of voidness.
Second chakra gives the sense of being in a different space or on a plane, but without perception of beings, and with no experience of movement. This would be a more expansive experience of voidness.Third chakra provides movement.Fourth chakra provides ability to perceive other beings and identify them through empathy.Fifth chakra provides ability to communicate with other entities.Sixth chakra coordinates all sense perceptions from other chakras into a coherent whole.Seventh chakra dissolves the perceptual biases of a body and plane in preparation for shifting the focus of exploration and growth to the next higher body.

As far as your own practice is concerned, it's good to hang out in the voidness, since that gets you used to being in a body. A next step would be to hang out there and request help or training for movement within that body, working with teachers in that body, and so on. A series of simulations designed to develop the inner senses of that body might then show up.

This place, if it can even be called that, called The Void, seems to be a dimensional area with no structure or content.
Because of the lack of information concerning this phenomenon, anything I might say is purely speculative.
I have found myself there a dozen or so times, but not for many years. It is quiet and dark and non threatening.
Astral projectors will occasionally find themselves in the void. They are aware that they are out of body, but that is all. There is zero sensory input. It is just very quiet and dark.
There is no sense of anything...no sense of whether the area you are in is vast or small and close. No sense of up or down. Nothing.
This can be likened to being in a dark float tank. Or, like being inside your mother's womb at night while she sleeps.
Total sensory deprivation. No sense of even having a body.
The void is completely non threatening. It is very peaceful there.
At times I have found myself there, I have been unable to project elsewhere, or even to deliberately return to my physical body.
The duration of void experiences vary, but time spent there is usually not very long....some minutes or so.
Void experiences are not usually frequent occurrences.
My best advice is to just relax and meditate and wait for it to end.

Bruce Moen

This is from the late Bruce Moen's forum. He used a special 'phasing'-related technique to access the non-physical:

One of the shifts that I experience that I could call a telltale sign of phasing is what I call the 3D Blackness. If you want a baseline to travel from, it is the void. It's not the same as a momentary state that people sometimes report during meditation. The void is the out of body state itself, completely free from physical limitations, but without having yet engaged with an environment. Cultivating that state is probably the best thing I have ever done in all my own activity.

I sometimes wonder whether it's really a "beginner's area", at least being able to remain in this state for prolonged period rather than rushing through it, since it really requires a lot of fine tuning and slowing down the transition process to a considerable extent in order to be able hit the void in an asomatic way without a second body. Even with no real body awareness, vibrations are quite likely, since body awareness is only just around the corner in the background. Btw...one can still float around in the void with a second body, which I occasionally end up doing when I forget to let go of non-physical body awareness during the transition. I prefer the mind-like experience though. Either way, it's quite a great thing, and like you you, I don't mind living there. Did you notice how crystal clear awareness is in the void? That's what I like about it.

I cannot quote what he said about The Void directly since what I have is from non-published material from his 'Oversoul'-course. There he also treated the 'buffer zones' of the non-physical which touches on The Void:

From this material I can summarise in my own words that he talked about 'black and 'white' buffer zones which you can use in order to navigate between planes. In his experience the structure is as follows:

astral plane 1 <--> white buffer zone <---> black buffer zone <--> astral plane 2 <--> and so on

So Nick Newport experienced the black Void and the white Void used for navigation purposes between reality planes.

Of course, this succession is logical since anything turns more to light while you are in the black Void and enter a new reality, which you do with your intent and/or by activating your 'astral' body (By the way, in my view the most famous and effective method applied against 'exit blindness' and for entering a 'reality plane' is clapping or rubbing your astral hands).

A white zone would thus make sense. From my own experience however I cannot confirm or remember a specific all-white zone. For me it always is a kind of fading into the scene which first is dark and gradually gets more brighter and clearer the more I 'anchor' myself with techniques in this astral plane until I'm 'there' probaby at full daylight. It is like turning on a dimmer light gradually.

Newport also mentions that the Oversoul (hence the course name) or 'Higher Self' exists or can be visualised as a 'disk' or 'jelly fish' floating in the 'Black Void'.

The Higher Self visualisation concept of a 'Soul Disc' goes back to Bruce Moen, while the 'Jelly-Fish in Black Space' goes back to the author Val Valerian. While I have read two books by Bruce Moen I do not know Valerian's works. However, just take a look at the cover of one of his books and you can clearly see it illustrated as the jelly-fish in the Void / black space with 'dangling' incarnations / avatars 'below' it and the 'Source' above it:

Suspended within a black void and in full waking consciousness I observed four sounds with their wave forms which influence and modified one another on feedback. This website owner developed their own terminology based on Monroe's Focus levels and some Carlos Castaneda terms. However even he/she uses the term 'Void' for describing the 'Nowhere' state or place.

The Nowhere is often called the void, the 3D blackness, and many other names. The Urumara and the Projection Room proper are part of the Nowhere, and the transit through the Tunnel and out of it into the Unworld is powered by the Nowhere, which is also the heart chakra. The Nowhere occurs as a transition zone between any two states. It's three dimensional, but since it can have a thickness of zero, unworlders can pass through it without noticing it. Often when
we think we're lying in bed with our eyes closed--especially when waking up from a dream--we are really in the Nowhere, which is the gateway to anywhere in the Unworld or back into your usual physical reality.

The Void, also known as the 3-dimensional blackness, or Focus 21, among its many names, is said to be a launch pad into any other state. Why?
The names we call it--the void, the Nowhere, the 3D blackness, etc.--suggest it is a vacuum of sorts, a place where other things are not. A place of nothingness. And it is this very nothingness that makes it a sponge for anything. As a sort of vacuum, it attracts whatever state you are closest to achieving, Intent-wise. Intent is like your current default. Even the notion of a default setting suggests the way a vacuum works: in the absence of some other volitional act, a pre-existing default setting automatically asserts itself.
We all have our hopes and dreams and fears and phobias and fantasies and what-not. Well, when you stand in the Nowhere (the 3D void), whatever you have next in line, Intent-wise, in your innermost innards, that is the thing that is automatically sucked into the Nowhere with you. So, if you're not sure what you have lined up in Intent, go float around in the Nowhere and you'll find out.
Naturally the analogy of things getting sucked into a place is incorrect. Nothing travels anywhere. This is good, because it means that results are instantaneous. What you Intend... IS. No lag, no travel time. The Nowhere is the ultimate sci-fi portal, the door to anything. As the embodiment of nothingness, the Nowhere is easy to miss, easy to pass through without noticing, or to mistake for something mundane. A common thing to mistake it for is a non-existent thing I'll call 'OBE blindness'. Often when people first experience a state of expanded awareness, they don't see anything. Habitually interpreting their experience in physical terms, they assume they are blind. But in fact, they are in the Nowhere. Not only does the Nowhere lead to all possible states; it's also where you end up on the way out of any state. Sometimes too quickly to notice, but I have experienced it in this way. The other common mistake is to assume that ending up in the Nowhere is the end of the unworlding experience. You think you're laying in bed with your eyes closed when in fact you're in the Nowhere and could theoretically have any experience you want, if you were better prepared. Awareness of the physical should never keep you from trying to unworld.
Mistaking the Nowhere for blindness as commonly happens at the beginning or the end of the unworlding experience has made it easy for me to miss the convenient opportunity it affords to experience next anything I want, or more accurately, whatever I happen to have lined up next in Intent.

It's a empty vast void. Sometimes it can appear as a grey mist, other times it's completely black. But what makes this area so unique is the depth that it appears to have. When you see it or are in it, you definitely know you are! ;-)

Some people see pinpoints of light that may be or resemble a star field. I just get an infinite blackness, sometimes flat black, sometimes an inky depth.
It's a wonderful, quiet, peaceful place to hang out in; or you can express your intent and move into the blackness. Other times you can look into the darkness and find a texture or depth to it, which indicates a portal to somewhere and an experience.
I arrive there between experiences mostly, but I have started there once or twice. It's a jumping off point to many dimensions. Also a great little vacation hotspot.
I'm not sure that Frank ever changed his opinion that the Void was Monroe's Focus 21, the entrance to the Astral levels.

If you can pull yourself out of a lucid dream very slowly, you'll be in this 3D void. No thoughts of anywhere else, including your body or you'll take off from this launchpad. It's THE place to do your best in staying as long as you can enjoying is pure tranquility. The ultimate personal pure conciousness of self can be realised here.

This is the only way I know how to project. I run as fast as I can from LD and everything goes black. It isn't peaceful or still though. It's more like I'm hurtling through space and I can't stop. If I make a request 'take me somewhere' or or whatever I get dropped into a scene but I haven't managed to stay there for too long. I've tried staring into the blackness but to no avail. When I leave a scene by say flyinfg upwards, I get back there but again not for too long. Also it looks mostly like space with twinkling dots of light. Once I saw planets with numbers on them too so maybe it isn't the void after all... I've only done this like half a dozen times in the last couple of months though so maybe inexperience counts for something.

If I relax, clear my thoughts and then close my eyes in a dark environment I quickly begin to faintly 'see' what appears to be billions of clustered little points of light slowly swirling against a dark backdrop. If I remain calmly observing the points of light they become progressively more in focus and brighter while the backdrop seems to darken to almost pitch black. It almost seems as if I were looking at the stars in the sky on a really, really dark night somewhere out in the boondocks far away from most light pollution. I'm sure most of you have had the fortune to see such a beautiful night sky sometime in your lives, especially if you ever lived in rural areas. Anyhow, when I try to have an OBE there comes a point where this visual suddenly becomes 3 dimensional and now instead of looking at the stars from a frontal position I'm seemingly surrounded by them everywhere as if I was a point of consciousness 'floating' in space or something. Sometimes these 'stars' start flashing past me as if I were on the bridge of the Starship Enterprise when Scotty gets the order to hit Warp 2. (Just thought I'd throw the Trekkie reference in for my fellow old-timers :-).) I also have what I guess I would describe as being a heightened sense of awareness during the experience, even though I'm usually not 'thinking' of anything in particular at the time. I'd call it a general sharpness-of-mind kinda sensation.
I find that this state has an extremely calming effect, however the heightened awareness takes a constant effort to maintain. The focus requires continual attention. I use the Monroe technique of willing myself AWARE! and that seems to give me a temporary boost for another few seconds, but then I lose it and quickly start to fade off into a dreamy sleepiness. I can never seem to maintain the level of heightened awareness for more than a few seconds at a time between bouts of fighting-off sleep and random vivid images that start popping into view as I drift off.

You may get a star field or you might just get inky darkness. Either take time to relax within it, or use it as a launching point with a proper Intent applied; go wherever you choose. It is an AP, just an in-between point; a transition way-station. It doesn't matter when you encounter it, either before a projection or between, that probably doesn't change it's function. Define it however you like, just realize its' utility; go from there wherever you desire.

This one is indeed the oldest thread I found about The Void on the Astralpulse dating back to 2002. Yes, the Astralpulse is that old! Note that 'phasing' is another term for 'projecting' more or less, it is based on Robert Monroe, too. It is more akin to meditational techniques using relaxation and visualisation as its main induction tools.
I have concluded that accessing this "3D blackness" is an extremely imporyant aspect of phasing - it seems to be the very borderline from where the Astral is accessed by any one of a number of methods, including tunnels.

I would say that being in the 3D blackness means that you are in a very relaxed state, but to be in a very relaxed state does not mean that you're in the 3D blackness.
A lot of people have trouble imaging what this 3D blackness is like, so I will try to give you a visual example. Imagine that you walk into your bedroom, and everything is pitch black. I'm talking NO source of light anywhere. THe blackness you will see would be very two dimensional and flat. You may see flashes of light or sparkles, but for the most part, there is no substance to this blackness.
Now, imagine that there is a slight (and I do mean slight) illumination coming from another room, which seeps into your bedroom from the bottom of your closed bedroom door. It will still be very dark in your room, but now you can make out shapes.
Just ahead of you, you may be able to see the outline of your dresser. You might sense your nightstand on your left. It's that kind of FEELING that I get when I'm in the 3D blackness. There is a depth that comes with it which allows me to 'move' around it and focus on different things.

This is the second oldest thread I found on the Void. It is from 2003. There you also see a quote from forum member Gandalf who is the one who compiled the Frank Kepple Resource referenced extensively in Part II. He also makes yet another reference to listening to music. He aligns the Void though with Focus 12 instead of Kepple who saw it as Focus 21 (which can't be erroneously transposed digits because Gandalf would have done so twice then).
I liked the Void to me it is beautiful and peaceful, without thought for the physical I wait in wonder with only the revelation that I am.

I found it peaceful. I also found that there's more than one 'place' you can consider 'the void'. I discovered several other things too.... what you think of as a void might only be so because you aren't 'seeing' what it really is. Consider it. When in a void you tend to fill it with things that may be parts of you, or emanations from you. (fear) You could make the void a terrible place, or you could try to discover your way through it.

Hello all, I have had a handfull of experiences in the void, from what I gather so far, the void seems to be a place where one can access all dimensions both upper and lower, I have demanded to go to places in the void, I remember feeling cool air (?) blowing around me, than the place i demanded to go to slowly come to view, all amazing stuff, i felt no fear in the void at all.

Yes, the 'void' is very well known to those of the Monroe school ilk (refered to as focus 12)
I prefer to use the term '3d blackness'; this is usually experienced when meditating or using hemi-sync. Basically, the 2d blackness in front of your eyelids (providing its dark of course!) becomes 3 dimensional and you find yourself floating in a peaceful black void.
'Monroe school' types tend to view the '3d blackness' state as the 'bridge' between your own mind and the astral; its where the two meet. As such it allows you to go anywhere you want in the astral given the right intent.
Btw, the 3d blackness state does not have to be empty; as it is where your mind and the astral meet, you can influence it to a great extent. eg next time you are there imagine your favourite piece of music; you will actually hear it all around you in fantastic dolby 5.1000000000!
To use the 3d blackness as an astral bridge: once there, you just place intent to go to some specific astral region and you will see some swirling coloured patttern in the 3dblackness. Concentrate on these and they will form into a 3d 'astral screen' (focus22) which you can then enter to visit that realm.
Of course, quite often people who reach the focus 12 (void/3dblackness) level prefer not to do anything and just drift in a nice peaceful state, just contemplating things, or nothing at all and as I said, you can choose to do this with your favourite piece of music playing all around you, in a way you've never experienced before (note: I wouldnt recommend 'deth metal' tunes for this one
Nice as this is though, eventully you will tire of this and want to get to the astral proper to do some work!

To me, it's the reality-less reality frame. It's what you experience when you've removed yourself from one reality frame and haven't yet begun receiving information about another. It's the in-between. Sometimes you experience it going from place to place... sometimes you don't. I've only directly experienced it going into and coming out of a projection. Only very rarely has it happened to me in the middle of one.

In the (probably F21) there's only your conciousness left. You're on your own and all around you is very peaceful. You can imagine being inside a massive cavern somewhere. It has that kind of feel to it. Any strong thoughts and you're out of it in some location related.
There's too many F's for my likeing. The first one has a link to the body and as things deepen you end up as far as possible into this blissful darkness.

Getting to the state of the void from a pure meditation takes a long time in my experience. You will probably have little doubt about this state when it happens to you as it is somewhat distinct. You will find that the blackness has a mysterious 3d quality about it and the sensation is that you have lost all perception of this reality; you are only aware of being a consciousness in this space.

This thread called 'swirling waves of darkness' is interesting due to the many differing but yet similar descriptions of the Type B Void.
... I always see this as I'm starting to "shift". It's one of those things that is consistent with every OBE I've had. Always the beginning stage... "blast off", so to speak. Does anyone else experience this effect too? What/Where the hell is it?
In detail: eyes shut - blackness w/ millions of little bright dots that are vibrating. Focus on one area. Waves of black smoke/inkblot-like --- begins swirling across my field of view... more intense as time goes by. All the while seeing different shapes and flashes of light in it's background. And the "feeling" that I'm about to go for a ride.

This may be your personal interpretation of what many of us experience as the 3 Dimensional Void/Blackness.
Most explorers experience an infinite flat blackness that has some kind of indescribable depth to it (hence the 3D). A smaller percentage get the multitude of pinpoint lights as you describe.
When expressing an Intent or request to shift to a new perspective, most experience a shiftin the 2 dimensional quality which attracts their attention. This may be represented by your swirling black/inkblot smoke experience.
It's very good that you notice the 'feeling' associated with the experience. Getting familiar with and learning from this 'feeling' in all Astral experiences is beneficial and necessary to your progress.
It's your personal launch-point, maybe...enjoy! Get to know it, make it your best friend! Express your Intent and GO!!!

This thread has the interesting question if there's 'personality' behind the Void, also in connection with the 'usage' issue. I will address this question again in Parts IV and V where I will be giving my own viewpoint. Here we also have information gathering, including future predictions, and music again.

When I'm in the void (or what I believe to be the void) I tend to automatically talk to it like I'm talking to a person, like there is someone watching or listening out there in the darkness. I experiment with different commands like 'Take me to my higher self', 'Take me where I need to be' etc. Recently, I tried 'Take me home' and I ended up in an apartment just floating from room to room. When this faded I tried the same command twice more with similar results.
Once there was a corpse that came back to life (not scary - I created and neutralised it as it was being created, I think) and there was a woman in the next. In both I again just floated around each room and even ended up in a pantry rifling through the spice rack! .It was perplexing and I couldn't understand why I was there. When I awoke I finally realised that I'd gotten exactly what I'd asked for - to go 'home', literally and I then saw the funny side of it. This has left me wondering if the void has a personality.

Through the void, you have access to everything. As you said... ask what you want and see what happens. Does that dictate an intelligence? Well, I think it's YOUR consciousness at work... so if you'd consider yourself intelligent, then yes. ;-)

Yes! I call it God. I also don't disagree with Xanth's answer because our consciousness is the God consciousness. It's all connected. (We just don't realize it and know how to access the fullness of it at present)
I've asked to hear music in the void and heard amazing symphonies and other pieces of music that I've never heard before on earth.
I've asked some other questions too and got answers. 2 nights ago I asked to see an 'atom' and a big energy cloud from the void constructed what appeared to be one. You could see all the moving parts. It was pretty neat.

I think the void is probably astral sight not really opening up. It's a projection I'm pretty sure but one where you cannot see. I agree with the state ment about God being there. My experience is that the music is shadow and coming from you but wow it is very beautiful. Not all things coming from you are scary things. sometimes very beautiful things are there too.

Slowly wake yourself and you'll end up in the void. You can see but there's not much too see unless you manifest something.From this lauchpad you can experience anything.
You might want to try and get the next weeks lottery numbers lol. From my experiences, the future IS obtainable in exact detail. Be careful what you ask for, the details can be overwhelming.
It's very tranquil too, definately worth heading for.

I was in the Void. I don't know much about this, I haven't read much, only heard it in passing. In Hinduism, it's the basic "true form" of Brahman, the Source of everything. And in the Bible, it's the state that existed "in the beginning". I think most religions and traditions have this concept of the "nothing" that was here before the start of creation.
Anyway, I found myself in infinite... nothing. It was completely dark. I was completely still and quiet. There was just nothing. No time, no entities, no objects, no light, no sound, nothing. It was just nothing, and it was infinite. There was only consciousness, and I was it (only there was no "me" in the usual sense of it, because here was just nothing but awareness of the nothing, if that makes sense).
And then, strangely, my mind started to wander and as it did, the nothingness started to become less nothing, and things like stars were starting to be there. My mind wandered to a television show I'd watched earlier for some eason, and when I "came back" I saw that I was actually in some aspect of the material world again. I had the sense that my mind wandering was sort of supposed to happen, and that because my mind was wandering, things were being created.
Now, a lot of this I already "knew", but to actually experience it is quite something. This was not just normal meditation and the three-dimensional blackness. This was something quite different, and very profound. I don't even know yet what this will do to me. Right now I feel quite weird and spaced out, and I don't know what to make of it.

There are three different classes of experiences referred to as 'the void'. Not surprisingly, due to lack of landmarks, they are very hard to tell apart.
1) a place sufficiently outside your previous experience or a where you lack appropriate senses: this is not truly a void but you assume it is because you can't sense or interact with anything. More energy usually helps with this one. Also with NEW could be a failure to transfer your complete memories to your brain on reintegration
2) a featureless blank area: these occur in much of and between the multidimensions, much like the vast tracts of intergalactic space in our universe. This is the classic physics definition of void. These can be enormously vast so that you can not perceive objects on the far side. This can happen if you loose focus when traveling to another dimension.
3) the 'level' of consciousness ('below' the oneness perceived as bright white): This is mostly a perspective problem as this dimension is entirely unmanifest. Nothing has perceivable substance so normal and PSI senses have no input. Knowing will still work here. Even though seeing is impossible, visualization can used in connection with thoughts. Even though there is nothing to hear, conversations with the consciousness can occur as if it was heard. This dimension is generally timeless which has the effect that you usually must initiate an interaction for anything to 'happen'.
a) a block created by attempting to perceive something you are not ready to perceive: this is not a void but can be mistaken for one. This experience carries an emotion overtone (usually trauma) which is often missed at the time and blocked when attempting to recall.

Point consciousness is where you are able to shut of the PMR data stream. You just sort of float, or exist in a sea of blackness without any sensory input from your body. From there you can heal, access other data streams, meet other entities, etc. You have to be able to shut off your internal dialog for quite awhile to get to the "point consciousness" stage. And you may experience it a bit differently than I describe as each experience is subjective.

(...) on occasion I think I've found myself in the void, (point of consciousness?) quite a few times because it seems to be very similar to what I've heard or read about. Sometimes it's accompanied or close to the vibrations or frequency. The first time I saw it when I was young, it scared me because I thought I died. There was no body. Just blackness. I know my mind can, and will, make up a lot of the things I see and hear. I also understand that what I think is the void may not be the void, even though it may seem like it. Maybe it's just a dark lucid dream where anything seems to be possible. Although I also noticed that this void seems to be where I am at before I enter a lucid dream and after I leave a lucid dream.

The "blackness" in front of my eyes tends to become 3D-ish and is usually accompanied by a white swirling light in the middle. Something usually tends to happen if I focus on it in my mind but my physical eyes tend to interfere and move, bringing me back.
I think the main indicator though is a silent mind. If you get to the point where you stop talking to yourself and your thoughts then you are just there in stillness.

The next thing I knew, I was floating in a dark void. I couldn't see my body but felt that my "body" was there. I knew I was complete but didn't really have a body at all. And even though I seemed to be all alone in a vast dark void, I had no fear. In fact, I felt fantastic. I knew I wasn't in my body anymore and even "knew" that I was dead, but I still existed. And this made me feel even more ecstatic. All my life growing up in the funeral business I had always worried that all the religions were wrong and we might just be gone once we die. But here I was, standing in the void, completely separate from my physical body and I was still here, still thinking and aware. I had the wonderful feeling of knowing I was still alive and would be for eternity.

I was violently thrust through what felt like grayish veils toward a super bright white light. Immediately, I found myself in a clear, colorless void, perfectly calm. I said to myself "I'm dead. What ever that was just killed me." After a pause, I said "I can know all there is to know right now.....but I'm not ready."
Right then, I heard a faint groaning/whimpering sound that got louder as I felt myself getting pulled rapidly from behind downwards. All of a sudden I was in my bed gasping for air. My hand was behind my neck for cervical support, and I became concerned that my loud gasping had woken up my other housemates. Then, very quickly, I found myself in another, darker void. In front of me was a floating sphere of bright, liquid-like colored swirls that represented my life. An extremely rapid life review took place and a very calm voice said "All the issues of your life shall be resolved."
I heard music, excerpts from a song I'd heard a few week earlier at a school drama production of "Hair". The music I heard was a chorus singing "Let the sun shine in". Then, I was in my bed feeling a profound peace, looking up into my dimly lit room with warm tears of gratitude rolling down my face. I knew I'd been given a gift. I knew in that moment that all of life is a classroom and we are here to learn to love. And, that this reality is like a dream, and that we are all interconnected. A few days later I recall looking out the airplane window on my way to India and realizing that I had no fear of death.

The Void
Shortly after my first OBE I have had another life changing experience happen to me. This time I did not really go "out" of my body, but instead went into the depths beyond.I was lying down on the floor, watching my breath and feeling my body sink into the floor, when suddenly there was a shift of awareness. Suddenly, the floor beneath me vanished, and my sense of being shifted so deep inside, that I was beyond the physical body, the physical-energetic counterpart and the mind that connected me to the body. I was suspended in the void, and there was nothing except all-pervasive Peace and Love. This was the place where all creation came from, it was the unmanifested wholeness of the entire universe. There was nothing, but there was everything there, and Love, pure Love as far as awareness can reach. At the same time I did project – I was still connected with my body, and actually my level of physical awareness was much, much higher and clearer than it normally is. It was very interesting to watch this whole thing happen. I was… I guess I just was. Then there was the mind, which was like a surface of a clear lake, and through the mind there was a link to the body – physical and physical-energetic. Watching my mind from this perspective was like watching a bowl of soup, and choosing not to stir it. There was no need for thought at all. To think took a very conscious effort, and I wondered what it was like to think. I created a thought, and it felt so solid, like an iceberg rising from the surface of a lake, and another one built up on it, and another one, they rose like great mountains out of thin air. They weren’t thoughts about anything, they were just thoughts. And each rose more and more of itself. Then I withdrew my awareness, and all of these mountains collapsed into completely nothing. The mind was again a thin transparent film, a surface of a clear lake. The thoughts came out of nothing and ended up in nothing.

I've had two experiences in which I feel I left my body and each time I've ended up there. One was when I was 5 or 6 and I remember a strange "dream" where I was falling through an outer space-like void unable to wake up or open my eyes. I was only able to move once I "landed" back in my body. Fast forward to age 19 when I became interested in AP and lucid dreaming, etc. I had a strong intention one night to have a lucid dream. I was in bed on the verge of sleep and I cleared my mind and tried to meditate. My eyes were closed and the lights were off in the room so all I saw was darkness. All of a sudden the darkness just expanded and my awareness was in what seemed to be in the void again. I felt as though I had moved forward past some kind of threshold. I feel pretty certain this is the same void or place I experienced before.

Amazing! You either just entered Robert Monroe's focus 10/12(It's probably 10/12 if there wasn't any experience between being awake and in the void) or have reached beyond Monroe's focus level 21, also known reaching beyond Franks focus level 2. Going through the void was described by both as reaching a certain next level of out of body experience, you're maybe getting near purgatory, heavens, your personal soul quest and a whole lot more.

I'm learning to astral project by using Monroe's Hemi-Sync Gateway Experience tapes which takes you to focus level 21, after that I would have to learn to project without the tapes and go through the void to reach beyond that focus level, reaching within Monroe's focus level 23,24,25,26,27 also known as Frank's focus level 3.

[T]he 3D “blackness” doesn’t LITERALLY mean “blackness”. It just means… “empty space”. Or a lack of visual sensory input. Does that help?
Here’s a quick exercise you can do to show the effect…
Stand in front of a mirror and pick a spot on your face and just stare at it. Try to not blink or move your eyes from that spot. What are you looking for? Well, as you stare at the unchanging visual, you’ll begin to see irregularities happen. Things will appear and disappear… things will move and bend…
THIS effect is the what the 3D blackness is. Basically, when you view an unchanging scene, your mind will begin to slowly shut off your visual perception. That’s the very event which you’re watching when you do this… this is part of the reason why we blink, it “resets” the scene we’re looking at. When we “enter” the “3D blackness”, all that means is that our visual sensory input has been reduced to near zero.
At that point, we’ve visually removed ourselves from “seeing” this physical reality and you’re now “seeing” a different non-reality reality. You’re seeing the lack of visuals. It’s kind of the same as the sound you hear when there’s no sound to hear… you’re ALWAYS hearing something. Well, you’re also always SEEING something. That’s what you see when there’s nothing to see… 3D Blackness. It’s calming and serene.
It’s really a different state of consciousness. It’s a state of consciousness you can use to project from too!
Once you find yourself excluded from this physical reality and you’re experiencing the Void, you have projected! From here, you can ask questions of guides, or place your Intent to experience whatever you want.

Astralvoid (mind the name!) is now another defunct forum / website. Unlike what I did with the EIC forum quotes I decided to leave this quote here.I reached a point where I felt kind of a shift in my awareness. I couldn't "see" anything, and I didn't feel vibrations - just the usual dulled awareness of my body - but in front of my eyes it felt like... like the volume of the space in front of me expanded. The way I pictured it (sorry, this will sound weird) was as if there was a hockey puck-shaped piece of open space balancing on its edge on the bridge of my nose. I could look into the edge of the "puck" and tell that inside of it, there was more like "real" empty space than the blackness behind my eyelids. As I became aware of this "space," it expanded, ultimately giving me the impression that it was about the size of a large room - like maybe my living room, rather than my bedroom. It felt like I might be able to reach out my arms onto the "floor" of that room and maybe hoist myself up. I got excited, then, and tried to find some way of willing myself *into* this space without actually moving my body, and the sensation faded and went back to normal behind-the-eyelids darkness. Does this sound like I'm heading in the right direction? Anyone else get a similar kind of sensation? I've seen the term "3D blackness" in some posts... Is what I'm describing sort of like that? It certainly felt like the space was... not 100% real, but approaching real-ness, if that makes sense? Realer than if I was just visualizing an empty black space, but not quite "real world" real.

Let's conclude this long Part III with a more philosophical outlook (this time again from the NDE perspective) about the 3D-Blackness experience and the aftermath regarding the purpose or element of 'self-reflection' in the Void. This is from another long article and I recommend reading it in full. It also draws a lot of references from the near-death-com-site and their long article on The Void, which I used for my introductory part above.
If the void truly does exist in the afterlife, then its purpose is to hold a mirror up to those who refused to judge their own evil behaviors while on Earth.

Part IV - My Personal Void Research

Let me start out by using the list from Part I again concerning the 'usage' or 'purpose' of The Void from the astral projector's perspective. The fourth list item 'information' will certainly be my main focus, as you can already see by the length of it.
Possible Void Purposes / Usage

1. Hub, springboard, gateway for entering astral planes, 'pre-OBE' state

Like many or almost all other APers I also use the Void as a springboard. I also often had the 'involuntary' experience that I wanted to go somewhere and ended up in 'Exit Blindness' (Type A Void). Most often though when I go deliberately to the Void nowadays I 'automatically' project to the Type B Void (Swirls) which is kind of 'waiting for me'.

I cannot attest to a White Void (Type C) when I do this except for one experience where I tried to get to the Void (FZ between F2 and F3, according to Kepple) from a Lucid Dream (F2). Usually the Void for me is always dark (A) or with grey smoke or pinpoints (B). If it exists as a buffer zone, as described by e.g. Nick Newport or Frank Kepple above, then it happens very fast to go through because in my case I always somehow fade into the scene. It happens like s.o. turns on the light in a room slowly with a dimmer switch lamp and the picture gets clearer and brighter each second.
Most often, in order to get out of the Void (A or B) I use the hand rub or clap technique with my 'astral hands' together with a command. This 'body action' turns on your body feeling (chakras?) and thus you can finally 'anchor' yourself in a reality you want to go to. First you solely see your hands you 'look at' indeed and then the scene(ry) around you unfolds gradually (lightening up) by the second. More on entering or exiting the Void will be talked about with connection to (4.) information gathering.

2. Contemplation, meditation, self-realization

I admit I am always a 'busy' astral traveller and most of the times tried either to go somewhere (see 1. above) or to stay in the Void and use it for interaction, communication and information access (see 4. below). So my 'stillness' times are rare and restricted. I plan on doing a Void meditation session though in the future.

3. God/Source experience, 'going home' (?)

The God aspect is true for me and I myself even at times dubbed the Void 'The Godfield'. I dropped this term again but you might come across the expression in some of my earlier posts that I will link and quote further down. Especially the information access aspect of the Void is somehow 'godly' for me since the Void seems vast and 'all-knowing' indeed. I do not remember feeling Bliss and unity there, but I had this experience during an NDE-like experience, so I know how it feels. It just did not happen in the Void then. As a side note, I also do not remember that I was ever in a state of being fearful, shocked or afraid in the Void, just like many NDErs are. Maybe I somehow intuitively knew even as a newbie experiencing it for the first time that this is a natural state you can be in temporarily - or maybe even 'the most' natural? A homecoming (to 'Source' or 'God') of sorts. More on this 'Source'-discussion can be found in Part V.

4. Information gathering, 'akashic' access (past, present, future)

This became my hobbyhorse and that is why this section will be extra-long. I am personally an info nerd. I also tried to gather 'akashic' and past-life info via 'normal' astral projections and dream programming with some limited success. However the real 'breakthrough' I had was with a protocol I developed with(in) the Void. I was inspired by Tom Campbell in this talk from a presentation in NYC in 2011. That is why I came to call it 'Campbell Protocol'.

The link below starts at the section of his talk called 'Making Contact' where he begins to explain on how to communicate with beings or the LCS (Larger Reality System); it starts at 1 hour, 4 minutes and 53 seconds. The decisive part for me and my method starts at 1'08:09 when he talks about 'ask questions like a lawyer' which refers to those that can only (or predominantly) be answered by 'yes' or 'no'. This is about control and easy understanding and not being overwhelmed by too many impressions or information flow. It's just: Confirm or not. Of course, you must avoid pitfalls such as being too suggestive or being too imprecise in your wording. More on that later. In this very video he also proposes the visuals-based 'traffic light' method with red for 'no' and green for 'yes', which I then used for my own approach:

Here is the (only slightly edited) transcript of that core part copied from YouTube. I quote this here because it IS so vital for explaining my whole process and the reasoning behind it. For me it became the essential procedure for retrieving verifiable and at the same time not too overwhelming information:

(..) ask your questions be direct it's best to ask questions like a lawyer a lawyer asks questions such that the answers are always yes or now say because the lawyer doesn't want to allow the person on the stand to go off on their own because the lawyer wants to control what's being said so the lawyer will ask a question and the answer is either yes or now so the lawyer does all the talking all you do is confirm or deny that's a good way to start talking with non-physical beings that way you don't have to interpret a whole bunch of text all you have to interpret is yes or no so talk to your talk to your non-physical entities in that way like a lawyer ask them questions that you get very simple answers that won't stress your ability to interpret you can interpret it yes so now you're in control of the of the format as well if you want yes or no can be a green light or a red light whatever however the tools that you want to use make up your own tools like the lady with the pendulum yes or no it whirls this way or that way well you can do that in your head as well interrogate your your your person you're talking with like a like a lawyer's like you have them on the stand but the questions need to be meaningful (...)

And this is what I did! I 'interrogate' the Void. Like a lawyer. I thereby established the 'Campbell' communication protocol for the Void telling it with my intent to show me a green swirl for 'yes' and a red swirl for 'no'. Simple as that.

You might ask: Who or what answers then with the colours? The Void itself or 'someone' via the Void or just myself / the '(Subconscious/Higher) Self'? Good question. By now I am certain it is not 'me' in a strict sense. I will provide some evidence for that in the 'Void Facts' below. My working assumption is that I communicate with what Tom Campbell generically calls the 'Larger Consciousness System' (LCS). I also assume it is somehow connected to the concept of 'Akashic Records' but cannot be sure of it. I might of course also communicate to/with 'beings' in/via the Void which I do not see but give verifiable information. The so-called 'Higher Self' connected to the LCS or Akashic/Soul records is another strong possibility. I will resume this discussion in Part V ('Who is (behind) the Void?').

For the time being and for the sake of information gathering the (verifiable?) quality of the data and the method used is at this point far more important than what constitutes the 'source'. The aim is to have a simplified method for the effective gathering of veracious and in part even verifiable information. And from my experience this voluntary restriction to a kind of 'boring' protocol proved to me that literally 'less is more'. The data I received from my experiments with this simplified communication method in the Void so far shows me that it is indeed mostly or entirely 'true'. The details and examples of this endeavour will be described under the separate topical headers below.

The process for this 'basic' binary approach to information of course means that for detailed data or dates you have to first get around things and encircle them before you approach and finally get the solution. For example, for receiving specific past dates (year in our current Western calender or a 'how long ago' datapoint) I use a technique with 'before / after' or 'ago' and get nearer and so literally 'zero in' on the answer. Let me give you a fictitious example of a question I plan to ask but have not yet done:

'The Mars cataclysm happened over 15,000 years ago (red)? Okay, so it happened before 10,000 years ago (green)? So it happened before 5,000 years (red)?' (Hence from question 3 already I know it was between 10,000 and 5,000 years, if question 2 had been a 'no' (red) I would know it was between 10,000 and 15,000 years ago). And so on. Yes, this can be tedious at times. But rewarding for an information nerd like me - simply because it works!

One might object - especially if not familiar to the non-physical reality via AP - why go to all the painful length and not ask directly for the number, date, data point, etc. instead? Isn't this easier and faster - and more 'natural'?

Yes, I did this a lot in the past but avoiding mistakes and misreadings is key because very often it does not work to get the spot-on data point you want. 'Reading' ('being shown') or 'hearing' ('being told') numbers or dates in the non-physical is often vague and when you view them (e.g. on an astral plane) you get so-called 'reality fluctuations' (a term coined by Robert Bruce) which means you get several results at one attempt, let alone a multitude of differing results at several attempts.

Numbers there often start to oscillate even after a second or two when you look at them, sometimes even more if you try to focus hard, and likewise do dates or names, or anything written down. Yes, it sucks! But every projector has made these experiences, so this is not just a 'law' in my book. I created a GIF animation to show you what it is like:

Did you spot all of the numbers? There's four of them in fast succession: 3,6,8 and 9. Remember that your task in the non-physical in this example was to just read 'one' digit. The same applies to letters and whole words in written text.

This is the reason why the 'Campbell Protocol' is so much more precious for me than e.g. any channelled or dreamed or whatever info I get during astral projections. Not that I regard this is all as wrong or unreliable then. I also received and retrieved 'real' stuff by other means, especially dreams about future events, astral projections or dream programming and dream telepathy. However, this binary inquiry with y/n is a way to really get to the core of things when you want your own questions be answered at the most truthfully.

Yes, I am well aware that this is a daring proposition but again let me state that so far my data supports this. Moreover, information shown via e.g. colourful channelling or astral experience can be overwhelming. There is also the possibility of flaws in the communication channel leading to misinterpretations or misunderstandings, wrong memorising or even simply cheating by deceitful beings you communicate with. In my view many of these dangers can be avoided by going directly to the Void and retrieving it from there.

All of the mentioned common obstacles to retrieve untainted correct data in or from the non-physical constitute the reason why I use this more laborious and simplified approach as recommended by Tom Campbell. It is in my view a far more 'secure' method of encircling the 'right' answer by narrowing it down 'from left and right' via yes/no. And the result usually is not fluctuating! It seems to be free of communication errors and deception the more 'basic' and simple you keep it.

Moreover, you get the same answer also for the same (exact!) question again, although there are pitfalls to avoid which have to do with how you are formulating the words. I will get to this as well in a separate chapter below. The most important takeaway is that it is indeed possible to get to the 'precise' data point after a while. I have a nice transcript example of that below concerning a year of birth.

Sometimes though I 'broke protocol' and applied other kinds of vision apart from just getting red or green from the 'system'. Either it was due to a lack or loss of patience or also to the fact that a lawyer does not only ask the closed yes/no questions but needs to get 'new' information with more open questions (how, what, when, why, etc.). So that is when I was asking to be shown pictures at times. My two validations listed below are good examples.

On other occasions I asked for audio data, so there was hearing / speaking involved. I did so while I was still lingering in the Void state. It did not always work though, either because the channel did not open or perhaps because it was just not deemed the right method at that time by the Void (see my chapter on 'refusals').

I did quite a few sessions over a longer span of time and always wrote the transcript later on when I was 'awake' again. There are other Void experiences before that without the 'Campbell Simplified Communication Protocol', of course. Since my lucidity is mostly very high in the Void (with one notable exception described below in the chapter 'Corrections') it was not so difficult to do the memory transcriptions since I remembered the dialogue well.

Nevertheless please note that I do not claim that they all are perfect word-by-word minutes documenting perfectly what was said. The 'dialogues' are the best approximation of what was remembered. I have developed some techniques of remembering my experiences well for later logging in the physical. Explaining this here as well would go beyond the scope of this article though.

Without further ado, here you have my (Akashic) 'Void Facts' summarised under specific chapter headers. Note that this time I put the relevant links, most of which belong to my original entries of my journal called 'Lucid Diary = LuciDiary' on the AstralDynamics forum, in a separate section further below. However, also note that I stopped journaling there in October 2016. There were some unpublished transcripts from the Void after that time. So in some cases I might add a later Void experience marked as 'Private Journal' where no link exists. Moreover, the still existing links might be updated in the future because I am in the process of transferrig the most important journal entries to my 'Astralblog', but so far most of the posts are not yet there.

AKASHIC VOID FACTS

VOID Truth & Verifiability

No, of course I do and cannot claim that all I got is verifiable information to be proven right afterwards. E.g. how can I do this with certain bits and pieces of past Earth or past life info, especially about Lady Sinera, a female past life of mine in the 17th century? By nature most of this kind of information is not verifiable, except for some weaker 'indirect' ones done by comparing some of the info gathered or 'seen' (e.g. fashion, clothing) to historic pictures of that time, which I did with success. This then does not constitute absolute proof, of course.

Here is a playing card validation I did from the Void. Many projectors do this exercise. They draw 'blind' a card from a stack and place it on a shelf or table for looking it up later during an OBE in/from the astral. This was my third attempt at this. However, it was only the first I did in or from the Void (instead of going to the room where the card is placed). It was an immediate success! I find this quite telling.

Please note that this still happened before I developed my 'lawyer' protocol. So it involved visual communication by letting the Void show a picture and after that I even projected into an astral scene (which was not my actual room though) to view the card again from there. It also involved a helper or more who first confirmed telepathically that I saw the right card and later were met in that room. I cannot say if it was the same guide in both scenes. It is also notable that reality fluctuations - by showing me a second possible card - only started after I projected into that astral room where the card also was. They did not take place in the Void!

I get vibrations and am in my 'astral bed' experiencing blindness again. I immediately shout out to my helper(s) to be shown the card I had put 'blind' on a shelf two days ago in front of a little nightlight (for night view should I do the unlikely case of a "real" RTZ projection).
First I remain in darkness, maybe holding a helpers hand or not (don't remember exactly) as I do usually when communicating with my helpers and do not see anything.
I shout again "The card! Show me the card!" Then I see a card approaching me from far away. The background is still black. There is just this little card, still far away, a little to the right (Btw, it's also to the right in my physical room). I zoom in on it so it gets nearer. I recognise it and shout it out as an aid for memorising it: "It's a Nine Of Spades!". Then ask for confirmation: "Yes?". A guide answers telepathically (no in-ear-voice this time) "yes".
Then vision comes on and I am in my "lightportal" (for those who don't remember my previous entries: it's the name I gave to my childhood bedroom into which I phase quite often, sometimes almost automatically) and the same card is on a shelf next to the bed there visible for me.
The guide who answered is a woman. But if I remember correctly it is not Katja (see last post above) this time. I don't know or remember her. I look at the card again and it still is the Nine Of Spades. Then however I seem to lose focus and lucidity. It starts to fluctuate and the black Spades turn also into black Crosses/Clubs, the number unchanged. So it might also have been a Nine Of Clubs.

I did not look up the card immediately but went to sleep after I wrote the result on a piece of paper in case I should forget which card I saw. This morning, I went to the shelf and turned the stack around: Shock! A Nine Of Spades!

Being very satisfied with this result, I did not repeat a validation attempt with cards or anything else until some group 'Remote Viewing' experiments on the Roundtable forum years later. Once I already tried it for 2-3 rounds in 2016 without being able to use the Void (although one time I really reached it, see the 'Standby' example further below). Another time I did it for a few rounds with different techniques in 2018 where I used the Void one time. In this successful attempt, the actual centre object was not seen by me. However, the experimenter (Laron, who is also the forum/website owner) had placed crystals around the object in order to stabilize the tablecloth it was placed on due to strong winds since the table was outside. (He did so for the first time, not in prior experiments!). So I saw one of them 'flying' through the Void. Even the exact shape, type and colour was correct:

That clear crystal / quartz in the right lower corner was 'mine'. Due to its longer and thinner shape it seems almost exactly how I saw it 'flying'.
Also, maybe I saw the flying and tumbling of the clear crystal because thereby it indicated your problem with the wind blowing, thus giving me also the reason for its utilization this time.

So again doing the validation attempt from the Void was the solution. I had other attempts using different methods (normal awake Remote Viewing, hypnagogic imagery, dream impressions) before this one, but all of them did not work. So the Void saved the day again at the first attempt. Again, I find it telling.

One can rightfully ask why it did not show me the centre target which it failed to do. I have no answer to that apart from the fact that maybe crystals are the best resonators for these kind of experiences and experiments? In all fairness I also want to say that I had another and even better success by using Lucid Dreaming in the experiment after this. You can read about it on this Transients/Roundtable forum thread.

Besides these 'direct' examples, there is another validating aspect I want to mention. The examples will be given under different headers below. It also has to do with assistance given by the Void or 'Void helpers' involved: It is the element of surprise and the element of correction.

If I would only give myself some answers wouldn't I only get the results I consciously or subconsciously expected anyway? This is almost certain. Several instances however proved to me that this was not the case as I often did get 'surprising' results counter to my possible expectations. This concerns data or dates as well as yes/no (green/red) answers. This has a 'validating' quality for me because it shows that 'someone' or something else (outside of 'me') is involved giving the answers and providing assistance. Also, being corrected with verifiable (!) facts afterwards when one was obviously wrong is certainly a very convincing experience. More on this will follow below.

VOID Assistance & Readiness

The Void did not just react with red and green but developed other variants of visual communication 'on its own'. Yes, this is astounding but correct. It was innovative and helpful on its own. I had never planned nor devised any of the following 'solutions' performed by the Void communication system for my benefit regarding assistance or improved response interpretation.

One occasion involved the year of birth of one of my past lives. I had already narrowed it down to between 1640 and 1650. Then the Void 'by itself' showed me the middle of it. It was not even a swirl but 'pefectly' red on one side (left) and green on the right side. It might either indicate that 1645 was already the right data point or due to the fact that the right side was green that the correct year was to be found in the second part of this 40ies-decade: 1645, 46, 47, 48 or 49. I had no further time to find out more due to my fading out but I was satisfied with the already very 'narrow' result. Below the quote of the transcript I add a picture of how it indeed looked, of course without the superimposed timeline ruler which I put there for a better understanding. As said, I had never thought of this kind of 'solution' myself and was really surprised by this time-saving 'innovation' from the Void as well as by the result (see below for this).

At another instance, a more 'technical' assistance was given. It was not the first time that I was shown by invisible 'helping hands' what to do and how to move, e.g. often I was helped out of the bed by 1 or 2 (usually not visible) helpers lifting me up when projecting into my room. However, this time it was different. I was already in the Void but wanted to perform a typical Roll-Out-manoeuvre, which is a common technique to 'get out of bed' when projecting into your etheric or astral 'bedroom'. This time I was hindered though. As I was lying on one side ready for a roll a helper held down my shoulders from behind me so that I could not move.

My interpretation: I was thereby shown that it is better to kind of 'teleport' or 'phase' or even 'stay' in the Void (maybe since I was already there anyway!). If you do a roll-out you are more likely to manifest yourself onto an astral plane. So the Void / helper already knew my intention and taught me how to do it by avoiding a mistake. The advice was clear: 'Don't roll for the Void!'. Stupid me did the mistake then anyway disregarding the helper. But the 'lesson' was learnt and memorised afterwards and applied to other successful 'exits' into the Void.

Another technical short one, but for what it's worth...
Again I get lucid and somehow seem to be in the Void. I am lying as usual on my side - the right one where I also was yesterday when I saw the standby screen.
This time however I realise I am being hold down by hands on my shoulder and arm to be prevented from moving it seems, it's a firm grip. Apparently, a helper wants to keep me from doing a typical „roll-out-“action.
I seem to ignore it however - a mistake. When I moments later somehow decided to move and get out into an astral (darker) room and other astral scenery I do not remember anymore my target despite trying hard to remember, the usual exit amnesia happened to me ... again, as so often.

Another proof for the 'readiness' of the Void happened even one day prior to the don't-roll-lesson. Then I found the Void on 'standby' mode when I got there. It looked similar to this picture with a green swirl (spinning smoky 'galaxy') on one side and a red swirl on the other side:

Just a short but interesting one. I phase into the Void. I wanted to get a picture from a code for a Remote Viewing experiment in another forum.
When I entered the Void from SP as usual, a nice voice greets me with a nice and very friendly "Hallo." (engl: Hello). It sounded like a young woman/girl or a child to me.
This is not the only 'ready-for-service'-sign: There is again the screen split and I see on one side the green nebula ('yes'-element) and on the other side the red swirl ('no'-element). (...)
It seems somehow as if the Void was waiting for my first y/n-question or any instruction. Standby mode.

This for me was like the Void saying (next to 'Hello'): 'Fine, we're ready, let's go, so what are your questions this time?' I admit over the years I had forgotten about the female voice greeting me. So we also had 'sound' communication. Don't ask me why I did not talk to 'her' then. A mistake for sure, not the only one I made; speaking of mistakes, see the following chapter about 'Surprises & Corrections'.

The Void also introduced a yellow-ish or orange-ish colour all by itself. See my comment on the traffic light and feedback corrections system in the section of 'Refusals'.

VOID Surprises & Corrections

As I explained above, it is an argument of mine that this type is another kind of validation. Giving surprising, 'new' and in part verifiable information, including even corrections of my own wrong preconceived ideas and expectations is evidence for the Void's possible function as a truthful ('akashic'?) information 'database' agent. At least for me.

I know that skeptics normally argue from a strictly psychological perspective that we 'ingest' so much information 'on the fly' during the course of our lives that we only consciously know so little and it is all stored away and forgotten in our subconscious until it is 'retrieved' in these cases, including 'corrections' because the subconscious just 'knows better' than the conscious. While I respect this kind of argument for some cases it is not really convincing to me from my research and the entirety of my experiences.

The examples that follow will show even more why. And you will see that once I even tried to somehow 'debunk' myself with a kind of poll I made on a forum. You see that I do have a skeptical approach to things, this is one necessary prerequisite of my research. However, the result of that poll was again convincing enough that I had learnt something 'really new' for me. Together with the other collected pieces of evidence (e.g. direct validations, helpers in the Void) I can conclude with some certainty that there is a kind of 'external' reality and consciousness at play. A final discussion about the Void 'personality' and 'who/what' is behind it will follow in Part V.

The first example I enlist here is the one I already mentioned above. Other astral projections and even one or two dreams had already given me some information about Sinera years before. I 'knew' her first name, her looks and the looks her relatives or people she knew and her country of origin.

I wasn't right all the time about the time she lived though. By some of the attire worn by her in dreams and projections I thought she was a middle- or even upper-class lady from the 1800s. The Void transcript above then surprised me with a much earlier date of birth. And indeed I later checked on the kind of dress she wore and the hairdo and compared it to portrait paintings of ladies of that period (17th century) in France or Europe. I could confirm for myself then that what I had seen fit that historic epoch even better.

Apart from the direct result of Transcript #5 (see above), the surprise and correction of my mistake was already given to me earlier in the first transcript, although back then my wrong conclusion was that her year of birth was maybe in the 1790s instead.

Another surprise and 'new' information regarding involved the use of sound in the Void. It was again about Sinera, this time I requested the number of her children.

First I hear that of a woman from far and she seems upset or panicked but I do not understand a word. Then a sober and reasonable male voice starts talking to me.)
Me: Ok. I'm waiting for acoustic communication still. ... How many children did she have? The conflicting info I got is confusing me right now!
Male Voice (from what I got): .... poisoning .... there was a problem with (the) banana bottles. ....
(I do not get more when I ask for clarification and fade out.)

My 'daring' interpretation which was also based on my following research explained further below is the following: Sinera indeed had only one child that made it through childhood. She lost two more children with infant deaths. This is a very common occurrence of that time, even til the 1800s it was very common and we can be sure even more in the 1600s.

I also do not exclude the possibility that I interacted with the aspects or incarnations either in a database recording or 'live'. I don't know. I believe I really heard Sinera and the moment she was either in agony crying over the loss of her children, which means I received a 'live' or 'replay' acoustic flashback from her life, or she was 'angry' at my question. It is not the first time I talked or interacted with her in the astral. She once kissed me on the forehead in a motherly gesture. It was a 'physically felt' (etheric) projection experience. Since it was dark then I assume it was also in the Void. So here you have another sense that was activated (touch). This example in the quote was just one of the times I heard her voice in the Void. The male voice might have been a guide or even - crazy as it might seem but I merely act on intuition here - her then husband (or father) explaining this to me.

I did now know the term 'banana bottle' and had never heard of it before. Even Wikipedia only lists 'baby bottles' and does not acknowledge this name in its current article, although it shows a picture of one: They are double ended and banana-shaped. The reason is hygiene and it was a really important invention leading to progress in the prevention of early infant deaths for those children who were not breast-fed long enough. Many babies died early because of contamination of the vessels used for feeding. More info on the history of the historic 'banana bottles' can be found here.

Before I wrote the post in my LuciDiary I checked on the same forum to find out how common the term was to the people of the English speaking world. 88% told me that they did not know the term at all. One said she might have 'an idea' what it could be. No one said they had known it before at all. In the Link List below you will find the link of the forum post and the poll and poll results I did before posting the experience itself.

This confirmed for me that it was not a well-known term at all. This also applies to the German-speaking parts of the world for 'Bananenflasche'. So I learnt a new term from this male voice and the object talked about really made sense in its interpretational context. Presumably two of her babies died because no hygienic bottles were used and / or they were contaminated. It all makes perfect sense.
Except for one problem: The time period does not fit. Banana bottles did not exist before the late 1800s. Since Sinera lived and gave birth to children in the second half of the 1600s this at first does not make sense somehow. So a kind of conundrum remains and I can only speculate:

Maybe communication is somehow faulty via voice transmission and banana-bottle was just one translation of it. Or he wanted to say that they died because hygienic baby bottles (including the banana bottle type which was the first of them) did not exist yet, so that is why infant deaths were still so common at the time. Or they did exist and we just don't know it historically and maybe in her household they were not just working or not cleaned properly? I will not solve this problem. As you might understand I also have more interesting topics to expore than just the history of baby bottles. Still, allowing for interpretational context and misreadings, the new information was somehow 'correct enough' for me and it was astounding to learn something really 'new'.

Another instance showed that I was not quite lucid when the Void 'corrected' a wrong assumption of mine which I would not have made in a fully lucid state. It might have to do with the fact that I had a dream about tennis that same night before I entered the Void. So this is why it was quite literally 'on my mind'. My lack of full lucidity is also shown by my forgetfulness about the fields of enquiry I had intended for the Void:

After waking up I did not even have to check on this because then of course I remembered that A.N. is a musician and one of the best in her field in this area. She is not a tennis star. So the Void was right - and highly lucid it seems - while I was flat out wrong. Beauty lies in the eye of the beholder so we can still argue or wonder about the answer to the second question (which is right in my view), but let's leave it to the mystery of the Void or the personality 'behind' it if it does indeed have a 'taste' or sense of aesthetics for human looks or if it just (correctly) mirrored my own view of (her) beauty. Live gracefully with uncertainty. Maybe it also has some sense of humour after all. I cannot discount this possibility since I already encountered a lot of humouros situations during communication with beings or even the LCS (Larger Consciousnesss System) in the non-physical.

Another example of a surprising result is this: When I queried the Void about Mars, it unexpectedly (to me at least) told me that then ancient ruins we can detect on the surface nowadays were not built by this ancient civilisation but another (following or invading) one. The quote will follow below in another header section.

VOID Stubbornness & Refusals

Not all things work in the Void. Or at least not all the time. Success for me is almost unpredictable from the outset or at least I have not yet found a fail-safe method. Actually all of the things I mentioned above do not always work or 'switch on' and become 'operative'. While the green/red screen is still pretty reliable to appear this applies mostly to the additional activation of different senses, especially sight (apart from green/red swirls) and sound. I did not yet experiment with smells or body touch too often since it as a matter of fact is not as helpful for getting information as our primary senses, namely audio and visuals.

So for example, I found myself often asking for 'someone' to 'talk' to me in the Void in vain. Sometimes I had to strangely wait for a longer time before someone answers. The 'sound/hearing' mode (chakra?) takes time to activate, at least this is my impression and conclusion. The same applies to sight which does not always appear when you ask for it in the way it worked perfectly for my card and remote viewing validations mentioned above.

It is my feeling that The Void actually receives my requests but simply 'refuses' to comply and thereby supposedly recommends to stick to my easy protocol of yes/no (green/red). It might even be a kind of teaching for me. Restriction can be rewarding in that it avoids the common mistakes, oscillations and information overloads described at length during my introduction above. So maybe the Void demands 'discipline' for success?

Especially reading text from a picture seems not allowed or popular with the Void at all. Of course, I explained already why this is so. But it is tempting to ask for something to be shown or read. Sometimes I could not resist. Here is some evidence for the refusal to comply: I once asked the Void (here in this log entry I addressed it as it 'Godfield') about the activation of different modes of communication such as reading text. This transcript is from a later log which I kept private and now copied from the spreadsheet file I use for journaling my dreams and OBEs:

This makes the data retrieval of names very difficult, of course. Maybe I should try spelling the alphabet down for the first letter waiting for green/red and then repeat it for all or most of the following letters. But this is time-consuming and ineffective. I might instead try sound again though on my next attempts because the Void at least 'agreed somewhat' to it. (In case you should wonder: Her first name was transmitted telepathically to me the first time via a projection to my 'astral portal' where I had turned on the TV set in my room to see a past life and saw her family. I just asked the name of my connected past life and was given the name. The name was later confirmed in the Void - see Transcript #1.)

A similar thing happened to the city or village name where Sinera was born. I asked the Void for the location to be shown on a map. It 'somehow' worked then. The area was shown pretty well, so I got to know at least where approximately her birthplace in France was. However, the maps then showed a flickering of town names that I could again not decipher. Here's the now slightly edited short entry I made in my journal in short notes form:

Red swirls and fire, then planet Earth and zoomed in France location shown of Sinera‘s town with read dot in the south-west Pyrenees area, near the sea. The read town names (Aififlin or Gysel or similar) do not yield exact results with today's maps though. Did not find anything.

Maybe the towns were historic and do not exist anymore. Maybe it oscillated with other info, e.g. family names. The names look and sound a bit Basque and it is indeed a Basque area of France. I have no further information. I know she was French but I have not yet found out if she was a French Basque.

Next to my past life as Sinera the ancient history of Mars (civilisations) is one of my fields of interest. I was however refused to be shown a picture of a Marsian, but then other questions were answered again with the usual green/red modus operandi. The transcript of this Void dialogue will be found further below in connection with Void entries and exits.

Another example of a correction of my interview techniques is the already mentioned yellow/orange light introduced by the Void telling me to rephrase the question to be more specific in order to facilitate a clear yes/no answer.

To sum up, I suspect that all of these 'reading' and 'hearing' problems might be the reason for the frequent refusals and 'stubbornness'. The Void knows that I am just 'not good enough' to 'read' text (names, numbers, date of birth, etc.) in the astral or from pictures shown to me. On top of that it also tells me when a question is not good enough (yellow or orange colour).

I am not too disappointed or even 'offended' by this 'behaviour' but rather see it as a considerate and very helpful manner of the Void that seems to know my strengths and weaknesses. Gotta live with it.

VOID Mistakes & Literalism

Many projectors have also made the experience with helpers and guides that sometimes you have to be very specific with your requests for help or information because you can be easily misunderstood. Of course, in the non-physical communication is different and mostly non-linear. So even guides must be 'trained' to communicate with your human mind thinking in linear and simple concepts. This does not always work as it seems due to our limited capacities to understand or 'decipher'. All of this also applies to the Void.

One of the pitfalls I dubbed 'dumb literalism' referring to the answer given. However it also arises by the lack of specification in the question asked. Here's an example for being too unspecific:

I wanted to use the Void to get back to 'The Library' I visited over 4 years earlier on the so-called 'mental plane'. This long and wonderful experience can be read here in my new Astralblog. I did not succeed because there might be countless kinds of ('akashic' or whatever) libraries in the non-physical. It is interesting what the Void then 'chose' for me as a destination. It is possible that I still 'ended up' in the Void somehow since the surroundings were very dark. The slightly shortened quote of the post also was my first 'longer' treatise of the Void which I then called 'The God Field'.

The God Field & The Planetary Library
Preliminaries
My exit strategy has changed again. Although first avoided like the plague, I now deliberately "jump" (better: roll) into that dark "The Void". This is the name it is called by many APers, in books and forums. I think I remember Monroe called it the 3D-(velvety)-blackness. There are other names. Some confuse it with 'exit blindness' but probably it is the "same" thing. I don't know. In my case it has some 'static' and oscillation to it (grey-black, other colours), that is why I called it the "grey Flicker-Field" first.
Now I call it "The God Field". It's because I now believe we can create from there or/and access lots of different planes of reality. I also remember one account of a regressed person in a Dolores Cannon's book where she talked about this place which is close to Source (or maybe it IS?). It need not be "light-filled" to be godly, it is still a very cozy and familiar place that we love. No fear is attached to "THIS" kind of darkness. It is not the angst-ridden thing we normally connect with the absence of light / the dark. And it's not completely dark anyway. It flickers and moves ("3D-blackness").

I rub my hands and shout an affirmation of where I want to go. (...) As usual it works fine for me now (my exit blindness problem is solved for good) and I see first patches of light which then open up more and more to allow me to "phase / jump / teleport" into the scene where I want to go.
I do not always end up the way I like to though. I wanted to go to the library again, the one I visited in end 2010, that School of Alternative Medicine.
So I shouted (while still rubbing my hands) "The Library! The Library!"
I missed it. However, I might have entered a kind of "library" indeed. This is where I got to instead:
The Planetarium
It is like a library of globes and you fly past them like you were in outer space. It is still relatively dark, yet I it is not outer space of the physical universe as we know it. Around each of these globes I saw letters, signs, graphics, glyphs, maybe some of them looked like index cars or short descriptions?

The pic is the closest I could find with a quick image search, but by far not resembling it, the "globes" were also further apart.
As regards the "planetary" or "spheres" library: I've been to a similar place before. Some have. Frank Aardema also wrote about it in his book.
I can only speculate about its origin and purpose of course. It seemed to me like an akashic planetary record indeed but I might be wrong and it could be sth completely different. I don't remember if the globes really looked like planets or if they were just dark. The glyphs around each of them made it look like a kind of information system ("library"). So I got what I wanted but differently. I need to be more specific next time with my affirmations / commands.
The last time I was there in this sphere field they had a grid and I flew down into one of the globes and did a kind of retrieval. So I am not yet sure what it 'really' represents.
More research needed. I am sure I will make it back to there. I desperately need to make my lucidventures longer again in order to get more info out of them. The "places" are interesting but it is teasing me when I cannot make/get the best out of it.

My query 'how old is mankind, is it more than a few thousand years old?' yielded only an inconclusive answer with that yellow swirl which tells me to rephrase and specify / narrow down the question. The same might have applied to the Starseed question before it.

To finish this chapter I give you an example of a successful 'fast-and-easy' type to illustrate what works best by avoidance of ambiguity. Of course, this is the type of unequivocal 'lawyer'-interrogation that the Void 'likes' and it gets you the best results. This is from an unpublished transcript again:

Of course, question three was kind of superfluous already since it was a logical conclusion from the two previous direct answers. However, I do these kind of control questions asking for confirmation to 'test' the Void. So far it did never contradict itself or 'revoke' something shown before. The seemingly notable exception is the 'banana bottle' issue explained above but this 'confusion' was supposedly due to the two early child deaths. So the question was maybe not specific enough but sometimes we cannot know these things in advance. It is all learning by doing, trial and error. You have to find the right phrasing of words and to narrow it all down in order to 'make mistakes impossible'.

Give it a try! Be as restricted and specific as you can. It really works doing it this way in the beginning. You can elaborate on the protocol later, including requests for sound and pictures. Start with this kind of easy yes/no-questions and the green/red signs. Then I am certain you will see mostly unambiguous results. If not then you might have to rephrase questions. Later you can try some other additional enquiries by voice / picture because sometimes they work, too.

VOID Entries & Exits

Entry:

I mostly enter the Void from sleep paralysis after an induction which happens for me after 3 hours of sleep already. This is more or less the so-called Wake-Back-To-Bed strategy, a term coined by Albert Taylor.

The best 'body exit' or 'Void entry' strategy is in my view akin to the method of 'Phasing'. I call it 'teleporting' or 'jumping' though. I was taught to use it instead of any kind of exit movement during my 'Don't-Roll-For-The-Void' experience (see above). So then I am in sleep paralysis or vibrational state (with or without vibrations) and just 'click' or 'teleport' into the Void. Normally, we all remember a short 'blackness phase' during each 'classical' exit technique, too, so this means we might go through the Void anyway (see more on this as a speculation in Part V). So this is just about using this common short window of opportunity to 'stop' there and stay in the 3D Blackness. Normally the view opens up quickly and I am 'there'.

In one experience I tried to enter it from a Lucid Dream. I tried to 'dissolve' the scenery (F2 according to Kepple) around me and affirmed to be taken to the Void. I ended up in a kind of light zone and it might in this case even have been the white Void although I cannot be sure of this. Since I was in an astral dream scenery before my entry into this white area this would make sense due to the White Void's closer proximity to manifested realities. I then asked a question and demanded an answer by sound. Indeed I heard an answer by a female voice but it was too low ('far away') to be understood. This can happen in the (dark) Void, too.

I will further work on this method and try to remember that I want to access the Void (or F3) from this area, too.

Exit:

I can leave the Void by different states of consciousness. I made some acronyms of the ones that mostly ocurred to me.

FOWAP - Fade-Out With Astral Projection (F3) (or Lucid Dream (F2)); also: VAP - Void Appendix Projection

FOWUP - Fade-Out With Waking UpFOWULD - Fade-Out With Unlucid Dream

FOWUP is what happens most often to me. This is of course the most helpful type for journalling since you can immediately jot down your memories for the dialogue transcript.

FOWULD can happen but it is rare. It is the least conducive to bring back memories, as a matter of fact. Mostly it is 'normal' dreaming (so it happens in F2). It is possible with lucid phases, too. Then it would be more of a FOWAP (taking place in F2 or F3) for me.

FOWAP is also common. To make it clear: This does not include being shown pictures in the Void because the 'background' in that case is still the 3D Blackness or swirls (Type A or B). It rather refers to 'exits' from the Void and 'entries' into full astral sceneries instead. This is of course also the usual 'travel' or 'teleportation' mode by using the Void as a portal to reach an astral or mental plane. However, in these FOWAP cases the projections were helpful in answering a question posed in the Void before. So they were connected (or 'appended', hence my term 'VAP') via my intent to the Void experience.

The following two transcripts from two successive nights about my 'Mars past project' are a good example of a FOWAP in the second night. The fact that one of my known guides appeared is another indication of a kind of 'VAP' ('Void Appendix Projection') helping me to understand and further clarify a concept or piece of information given or asked before.

Part V - Conclusions & Outlook

In this part I will present my conclusions and with it do some metaphysical and philosophical discussions under separate chapter headers. Remember that a lot of it is speculative and I do not claim to possess the ultimate truth and the philosopher's stone. Moreover, my personal findings and conclusions about The Void are mine. Your truth may always vary. That is okay. Moreover you will notice that after all there are always more (and new) questions left than answers given. This is the very nature of this type of metaphysical investigation. In the end a preview on my further Void 'science' (Part VI) will be given.

A (Very) Short Summary

It has been given quite a few names or vivid descriptions by now: The Void, 3D-Blackness, Velvety Blackness, Focus Z / 15 / 21, Purgatory, Ginnungagap, Point Consciousness, Ether, Akasha, Nowhere, Nothing / No-Thing, No Datastream State, God(field), and so on. It has been corroborated by so many explorers to 'prove' its existence beyond any doubt. This has been the main goal of this article with me even accepting the peril of being too repetitive (and thus boring), but this is what corroboration is all about: Many people reporting more or less the same or at least a similar thing. So I had to showcase it to prove it. Mission accomplished.

Astral Projection / OBE / Phasing is the main method to get to the Void. It can be caused by either wilful or 'spontaneous' or 'forced' OBEs, the latter of which is usually happening during Near Death Experiences. Hypnosis and Meditation are other methods although in my view the latter might just be another 'direct' induction method (related to the concept of Phasing) for Astral Projection anyway.

The Void's 'purpose' or main use for voluntary users (astral projectors) is first and foremost 'transportation'. It is a gateway or hub as well as a structural buffer zone between different planes of reality which includes this level we call the physical / material world. Another usage is mere self-reflection and meditation. A third one is 'akashic' information gathering (past, present, future) and I came to believe by my own experience and research that here the Void is very reliable, most probably more reliable than channelled messages and maybe even as reliable as some of the very convincing Remote Viewing material that I know of. At least this is my opinion.

The Void comes in three 'flavours': (a) total blackness / 'exit' blindness, (b) swirling smoky dark-greyish galaxies or pinpoints of light (see picture) and (c) totally white.

So 'Who' Or 'What' Is (Behind) The Void?:

So who is doing the talking especially in my case (see Part IV)? Has the Void a 'personality' of its own, as one of the forum threads in Part III suggested?

For sure it is a plane and/or state of existence for us as consciousness ('souls'). Maybe it is part of us (or we are part of it) after all since we belong to All-That-Is anyway. We are a part of Source.

From this viewpoint we indeed all 'talk to ourselves'. This puts the issue about the 'subconscious talking' (see Part IV) literally into perspective. For some of us the subconscious is also the Higher Self - e.g. Dolores Cannon in her books also saw them as the same thing or at least used these two names interchangeably.

Of course, we know from some fields in metaphysics, hypnosis, psychology or medicine that subconscious testing and info reveals surprising or even correcting data, such as kinesiological muscle tests or drowsing (pendulums, rods). Moreover, as has been shown sufficiently above, many astral projectors go there to be 'alone' on purpose for meditation. Furthermore, some NDErs who got 'caught' there also felt very 'alone' at first. So are we 'alone' there?
My answer is yes and no. It depends on two things: 1. Our frame of reference and 2. our intent.

The whole frame of reference issue is mostly a philosophical discussion and I do not want to expand it here any further. However and above all, it should be remembered that I am examining these points from the individual incarnated human ego viewpoint. And from this perspective (point of view) even the subconscious / Higher Self / Oversoul could be seen as something 'exterior'.

Regarding our intent: We can choose to be alone (see meditation purpose) or end up (feeling) alone as NDErs. We can also, however, start communicating with someone or something. I believe the Void is also and always connected to the wider reality or collective consciousness. As soon as we put the 'intent' out to be in contact with someone or 'something' then we are, even if it is 'only' the 'larger Self' (Higher Self). Thus we can have it both ways. This is my strong conviction. We can be individual and 'all' - altogether and probably at the same time. We might even experience the 'All-That-Is' in a mystic experience in or 'from' the Void.

Tom Campbell also calls this 'All-That-Is'-mind the LCS - Larger Consciousness System. Let us use the Monroe/Kepple-model to go more into specifics and subdivisions: In the Focus Level methodology simplified by Frank Kepple (see Part II) we are 'isolated' in F1 (the physical) and F2 (private astral) and enter the collective with F3 (wider astral and mental planes) and with everything 'higher' (including Source) on level F4. It seems to be a continuum: The 'higher' or closer to Source we get the more 'connected' or 'one' we are. Interestingly, the Void is seen in-between F2 and F3 by Kepple who also called it 'Focus Z'. It is Focus 21 or 15 in Monroe's methodology which is also 'in-between' the ladder of levels somehow. So this also shows that it could be both: Our 'own' information and self-talk or the communication with other 'souls' or consciousness in a more connected state.

Next to the LCS (All-That-Is) in general, there are other possible agents and 'souls' that communicate with us via the Void. Sparks or subdivisions of Source, if you will. The NDE article already mentioned the presence of 'angels' or other higher beings assisting the NDErs. It is very common for all of us to experience guides and helpers during our astral travels and even in dreams sometimes. So why not in/via the Void then? Even the existence of 'on-demand' and 'specialised' helpers such as 'akashic library guardians' or 'info service experts' would be a possibilty. And then there's lots of 'astral beings' or even what we would classify as ET beings. Therefore all of them could communicate with us via the Void when we request help and information. Or maybe it even changes all the time?

I plan to ask the important question as to 'who am I talking to?' of the Void in future sessions. So the result might come up in a Void dialogue transcript in Part VI when I write about my further research I've done from this point in time onwards. For the time being, I still leave it all undecided but due to the quality of the informatoin I do not believe it is just 'any being' (because they could fool you any time) but rather a guide, the Higher Self or the (Akashic) Source itself. Anyway, take your pick. For me the most important takeaway is about 'what' is being said. I prefer the message to the messenger and assess it from that point of view. What else can I do? Therefore I can say that the Void is reliable enough to provide valuable and in rare cases even verifiable information. Judge a tree by its fruit. And it is a good tree with good fruit so far.

Type A Void & Similar Phenomena (Exit Blindness, Tunnels, Mindsight, Remote Vision, Hypnagogia & Hypnopompia):

Another open question is the comparison of the Type A Void (complete 3D-Darkness) with so-called Exit Blindness. Many if not all projectors quite often experience or remember a phase of darkness after the exit technique - even in those cases when you almost immediately enter an astral scene. Sometimes they stay 'trapped in the dark' and this is a problem because they did not want to. However, there are tricks like affirmations (e.g. William Buhlman's 'Clarity Now!') or body movements (reach out for touching objects, rubbing your hands) or both in combination to enter any astral scenery.

The fundamental question is: Do you thereby also go through the Void (Type A) or is Exit Blindness a completely different phenomenon instead? The opinions are split about this issue in the astral projector communities. Moreover, all or many of us remember those dark phases from falling asleep or waking up (hypnagogia or hypnopomp states). Since entering the dream (F2) can also be regarded as a form of projection done usually (but not always!) from the physical (F1) the question arises if this is also the same Void we experience during conscious astral projections.

Then we also have the tunnel travel experience often happening during NDEs but also AP/OBEs. The tunnel is mostly dark, too, while we head for the light source signifying 'tunnel exit'. Is the tunnel (in) the Void?

Other questions arising have to do with 'Mindsight'. Sometimes when we are in the dark Void and still can 'sense' our body or an environment 'somehow'. In Kenneth Ring's 2008 book of the same name he examined the same phenomenon happening to OBErs or NDErs among the blind and discovered they then also can 'see' in some way, even the people who've been blind from birth.

Moreover, recently the practice of 'Seeing-Without-Eyes', dubbed as 'Remote Vision' by Tom Campbell. It is taught especially to children and slowly gaining momentum and recognition. So even here with all of these different types of experiences the same question arises: Do we then also go through the Void or is there at least a connection?
I have to leave all of these questions unanswered. I tend to believe that especially Exit Blindness, Tunnels, Mindsight, Half-sleep-darkness are the same state as or at least closely linked to the Void.

Universal Structure, Source & Natural State Of Consciousness:

So the previous chapters already touched on this issue: Is the Void ubiquitous, permeating, everywhere? Even 'surrounding' every state of consciousness? Is it the basic layer behind of all our conscious experience and all 'reality'? Is the state of 'no-datastream' (according to Tom Campbell) or 'no reality' our 'natural, primordial' state as all-pervasive consciousness?

The astral explorer's experience seems to confirm this suggestion. The Void is a hub or a mode of travel to get to virtually any level or plane of reality. It is literally 'all-pervasive'. Like a road network of a big city. Like veins in our bodies. Fred Aardema's quote from his book describes it beautifully:

'To fully understand the void, it is important to realize that it does not only occur at the end of the transition process. Rather, the void constitutes a space of nothingness that exists in between all OBE environments. It is the invisible glue that permeates all conceivable environments you could possibly encounter.'

And is it even 'Source' itself? Is it pre-creation? Or a kind of metaphysical Matrix? Maybe there is a 'yes' and 'no' answer to it. Maybe it is part of Source? Or an expression of Source? Or just a way to 'see' it? For me it is meanwhile not too daring to say 'it is Source' even though this is maybe not the whole picture.

After all, it has been clearly described as 'Source' (God?) in Dolores Cannon's accounts (see Part II). We as souls or 'sparks of Source' can leave Source and assume different states of existence in manifested realties, universes, planes - including (but not exclusive to) the physical experience, such as our current Earth lives as humans.

Let's try an analogy: I would like to compare this entire picture to (3 of the 4) states of matter that water can take on. I use this just just as a metaphor, so it is not to be taken too literally. As 'gaseous' state (water: vapour) we are in our most coherent and 'weightless' state, close to Source or Source (our true Home) itself. We can enter and experience mental and astral realms in a 'fluid' (water: 'liquid') state. The physical experience can be aliged with the solid (water: ice) state - the most dense and 'heavy' one. In this nice picture we can see all three states of water represented: Ice, liquid and vapour clouds.

However, there is another aspect to it: Water as a kind of 'sea of consciousness' is also always still 'one'. So in this picture we are 'all of it': ice, fluid and vapour. This would mean that while we are in different states (solid, liquid, gaseous) parts of us can still be all of it simultaneously. A drop in the ocean and the ocean itself. So we might actually never have left our true home? Therefore we can be (in) the Void while we are human, too. We occupy this state probably all the time, or at least very often, e.g. during sleep.

Which exactly of the states best corresponds to the Void is a good question: Certainly it's not 'solid', but it might be 'gaseous' or 'fluid' - or both. Or plasma? However, remember that I used this comparison only for a better understanding anyway and we all know analogies are never perfect.

Monroe's/Kepple's Focus level methodolgies are exactly based on this 'mystic' view of reality, too. It postulates that we are all-pervasive consciousness. We just put a 'Focus' on a certain state (physical/solid, astral-mental/liquid, higher/gaseous) - one at time. When we are incarnated (solid) as humans then our 'normal' or 'default' Focus is on the physical world experience (Monroe: C1, Kepple: F1) - at least while we are fully awake with our brains in beta-waves mode. It changes during sleep or other altered states of consciousness.

And if we are lucky as humans it can happen in our lifetime that for short moments we become consciously one with the 'Sea' again while we may also still be an individual drop at the same time and remember parts of it later. This type of OBE is usually called a Unity / God / Source / Mystic Experience. Many mystics, monks, sages, gurus and adepts taught and wrote about it in the course of history. It can happen to the 'normal' astral projector (OBEr) and the NDEr alike.

The Chakra Question:

Kurt Leland's quote and also Robert Bruce's work with the energy body and energy centers (chakras) for me wonderfully add to the complete picture.

If it is true that we as souls experience realities / planes in corresponding and equivalent vessels (which we call 'bodies') then it makes sense to postulate that there is a universal and analogous structure to all of them on each level. This universal structure is energetic because only on the physical plane we have a biological brain/body-unit with its own high complexity. So what is the overlaying body unit? It is postulated and observed by some explorers and clairvoyants that also energy bodies have the chakras (energy centers or vortexes). So this means that chakras, like ourselves and our 'bodies/vessels' are multidimensional.

Kurt Leland attributes certain functions to the chakras to experience each body and astral plane. How good you are at experiencing a reality level depends on how you are capable of turning the corresponding chakras all on, e.g. the mental body chakras for the mental plane. I repeat the part of his quote from above where he lists the functions of each chakra, remember that this process repeats itself on every plane/level:

What creates the feeling of voidness is that only one or two chakras of the body in question are active:
First chakra gives the sense of being in a different body, but no sense of being in a space. The body may itself be perceived as a self-contained space; no beings, no possibility of movement. This would be one example of voidness.
Second chakra gives the sense of being in a different space or on a plane, but without perception of beings, and with no experience of movement. This would be a more expansive experience of voidness.Third chakra provides movement.Fourth chakra provides ability to perceive other beings and identify them through empathy.Fifth chakra provides ability to communicate with other entities.Sixth chakra coordinates all sense perceptions from other chakras into a coherent whole.Seventh chakra dissolves the perceptual biases of a body and plane in preparation for shifting the focus of exploration and growth to the next higher body.

So for example, in order to experience the body itself the root chakra must be activated. Does that e.g. mean that in a projected Void state with no input we do not have any chakra activated? If we then start to feel (being in) a body we have the root (first) chakra activated. If we feel space around us we also have the second chakra activated. If we see or hear and communicate with 'people' there we have other higher chakras activated. Note that in the void this could possibly be the astral body's chakras. All the time, even without any chakra (no matter which level, physical or astral or whatever) switched on, we are at least point-consciousness with our thinking capacity and (self-)awareness turned on.

This is an intriguing theory which I really like. For me it makes sense. I see no contradiction with other views although it is often said to be incompatible with 'modern' views such as the Monroe / Kepple school. It can be unified in my view.

On the higher levels though (F4, Higher Self, Source) I would suggest, since we usually experience them body-less that the chakras play a lesser or no role at all. It would not make sense since we do not need bodies. We are 'pure' consciousness, in no form at all or only a 'form' of point consciousness. This leads me to the definition of Point Consciousness.

Point Consciousness Types:

In my view, the term 'point-consciousness' could represent even three states:

The state of higher 'divine' mind (higher F3, F4) / Higher Self or even the state of merging or being merged with Source / God.
The state of an energy body that roams the astral realms with lower chakras switched off and thus without body (feeling). The true invisible 'observer mode'. However this could also mean that higher 'communication' and perceptional chakras function instead, especially the 7th chakra (see Leland's list for this).
The 'proper' Void state with no feeling of any body or any 'additional' senses (chakras) turned on, as it was also described by Tom Campbell above.

Light And Darkness:

For some of us with our culturally ingrained spiritual beliefs this can be an emotional or even ironic issue. We normally fear the dark which is something evil for us. On the other hand we seek and love the light. We associate light with higher spiritual realms or even with God/Source itself. I do not believe this to be wrong. However, the Void shows that it is by far not the whole story.

The Void experience completely upsets this 'all-good-is-light-and-all-evil-is-dark'-belief, which is almost a cliché. The Void is even described as something that makes us feel home. Something that helps us 'find ourselves' and lets us meditate. It is fundamental. It is helpful. It is cozy. It is calm. It is peaceful. It is the 'All-Good' - the expression used in my opening quote in Part I taken from the 'Tibetan Book Of the Dead'. Yes, we also have the fearful NDE accounts but from a more experienced projectors point of view they seem almost nullified. Moreover a great deal of NDE reports from the Void are also neutral or even positive.

The Void's Tools Of Creation: Light & Sound:

But what is more fundamental, the dark void or the light void? What might constitute 'Source'? And who made who or what made what? We might find the answer in Dolores Cannon's account again. Let's revisit a small but crucial excerpt from her book:

D: Is that nothingness comparable to the Source, or are those two different things?
T: It would be the Source.
D: Because I’ve heard the Source described as light.
T: It is the darkness from which the light comes. It is beyond the light.
(...)
There may be something beyond that, but that is what I see from where I am. The nothingness. And from the nothingness comes the light. And from the light comes the differentiation that we call the somethingness.

So it seems that light is an already created / manifested reality coming from the (dark) Void. It is like in quantum physics where 'nothing' (no thing) creates a 'thing' out of itself. And the 'thing' could be light.

Moreover, when we go through the Void as a transportation gate, tunnel or buffer zone each time we project then this also shows that light is connected to creation: astral, mental and physical planes or any kind of 'created' reality. It can be a kind of collective environment (F1, F3 and higher) or a scene from our individual creation such as the dream world and thought responsive astral realms in F2 (4D).

Nick Newport's outlined structure (as mentioned in Part II) also supports this reality model. Here is his succession of layers again, this time the Type B Void added in-between:

Dark Void (Type A, state of non-creation, no data) --> pinpoints of light (swirls, Type B, state of readiness to jump or sign of creation onset) --> white void (Type C, more light signifying impending reality entry or creation) --> created or entered existing reality planes (including the physical plane as one of many)

The same or a similar principle could apply to us as 'souls'. Val Valerian (see Part II) described the Higher Self as a 'jellyfish of light' in the Void. So even our Higher Self is a form of creation from Source by splitting off as a light spark. We as another subdivision are a spark of our Higher Self that is sent out to 'explore' and 'experience' other (lower, 'denser') realities manifested by light. First we exist as Higher Self (the unit closest to Source/God) and then from there we expand ourselves via all types of 'incarnations'. The book cover graphic in Part II exactly shows this picture.

In Quantum Physics we also seem to have similar concepts. Remember David Bohm, the famous quantum physicist, who also said that all matter actually was 'frozen light'. This might not just be metaphorical or poetic language.

This article from Collective Evolution sheds 'light' (no pun intended) on these new concepts which actually correspond a lot to ancient mysticism and beliefs about conscious creation of the universe from the void / nothing / no thing:

A new physics theory posits that creation comes from the void, which is characterized by non-physical properties. This has been categorized as "ether" by scientists in the past, but today we can actually detect it.

Regardless of 'what comes first', light or darkness, the close interaction of dark and light in creation is an important takeaway for us here. This universal principle can also be found in the famous Taoist Yin-Yang icon. One is contained within the other. A principle of mutual inclusion, which we find also among the universal principles of 'fractals' and 'holography'. One cannot even 'exist' or 'create' without the other. Creation needs both principles. The light and the dark energy or state. It is the basis for creation.

Still another question remains: How about sound? In the Eastern teachings it is not light but a certain sound that is fundamental to the creation of reality: Om or Aum.

Om (ॐ) is a sacred sound and a spiritual symbol in Hinduism, that signifies the essence of the ultimate reality, consciousness or Atman. It is a syllable that is chanted either independently or before a mantra in Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism.

Juergen Ziewe (see Part II) also witnessed the creation by sound directly in the Void. I repeat the quote from above:

I requested consciousness to be taken to the “Big Bang”. Suspended within a black void and in full waking consciousness I observed four sounds with their wave forms which influence and modified one another on feedback. A feedback of incredible harmonies and of increasing complexity, escalating and generating an almost infinite complexity of wave forms. At one point the experience became all too much for me and I returned to the relative comfort of my physical identity, but I figured that the feedback process may have reached such a high degree of intensity that it may have finally exploded into a “Big Bang”, but that I did not see.

Sound and vibrational Healing modalities also show the benign influence of healing tones and music on our body that bring more coherence to our state of mind and body. So it works on the mental as well as the physical level.

Cymatics is another hint to the creation or influence of matter with sound. The sound 'Om' displays itself as follows in an astounding way, as is shown in the first video of these three examples:

Maybe we cannot really answer which of these two (light or sound) products of the Void is the more fundamental or 'first' one. Generally, in the Void and for us humans in the physcial world both primary sensations, visuals (sight) and sound (hearing), are for sure the most important senses needed to perceive and experience reality. Light and sound are both more or less wave-based vibrational information. In the physical they are then decoded by our biological brains for information, interaction and a general 'functioning' on this reality level.

However, the Void shows us that we can exist as 'mind' and 'awareness' without these senses turned on. For creation or experience of creation both are needed or even can be used equally. Many of the sources and quotes used in this article indicate that both sound and light are originally created in and/or emanate from the Void. The Void is thus maybe the very foundation of reality itself.

However, we cannot know with 100% certainty if there is even something behind the Void (or even behind that and so on, which is akin to the philosophical concept of 'infinite regress') or if there are more Voids that represent different Sources / Gods. This is also what the hypnotically regressed person in Dolores' Cannon quote above said: 'There may be something beyond that'.

Even Tom Campbell in his MBT theory does not exclude the possibility of more 'AUMs' (Absolute Unbounded Manifolds, his equivalent of the consciousness-as-reality-based 'God' / 'Source' / 'All-That-Is'): See on Googlebooks from his Trilogy 'My Big Toe', chapter: 'An Even Bigger Picture'.

To sum up, I believe that we as humans will never fully grasp what the fundamentals of reality are. As temporary 3D beings we are limited in our understanding as well as in our access to information. All we can do is explore, observe and describe things just by approximation; and from there we further theorize and speculate. This article was an attempt at this by providing corroborated evidence mostly via 'eye witness' reports and base some speculations and conclusions on it. No more, no less. The answer of what really constitutes 'Source / God' cannot be given with full assurance. Not by anyone. Maybe never as long as we stay incarnated.

That is the essence of being human: Live fully and gracefully with uncertainty.

Outlook & Part VI

My quest will go on. Every Void experience creates more questions than answers found. So there might be an update as a sixth part with more transcripts and further insights, speculations and conclusions in the future.

I will explore further topics about Earth's and Mars' past. I will experiment with meditation in the Void. I will try to further improve my communication and information gathering methods with the Void. I will also find out more about who/what is 'behind' the Void. As a musician I will also start experiencing music which I shamefully so far missed out on. Other senses like smell and touch will be tested, too. Finally, some more past life info will be added. So in future there is more 'content' coming up for sure. Much work to do!
